Great track, I just wish the Bee Gees had done it themselves.

The Brothers Gibb (IMO) are great. They have never gotten their due as writers. You might throw stuff at me through your computers but I'd rate them over The Beatles any day.

I agree that their songwriting still doesn't get the respect it deserves. Purely from a melodic point of view they're as good as anyone and better than most. And I actually prefer them over The Beatles, too. Just. Lennon & McCartney never wrote a song quite as great as To Love Somebody, imo. And then there's Stayin' Alive. Lennon & McCartney never quite managed a song as cool as that, either. smile

I won't go so far as to say that "Lennon & McCartney never wrote a song quite as great as To Love Somebody", but it amazes me as to how attached the Bee Gees are to disco in many folks minds. I understand it, I suppose, but the first thing I think about is stuff like 'New York Mining Disaster', 'I Started A Joke', 'Run To Me', 'Words' etc.

Sometimes, it's like you're discussing two different artists.

Has there ever been another band that did a stylistic switch quite like they did? hmmm

And yeah, fair enough, I know there won't be many who agree with me about To Love Somebody trumping any composition that The Beatles wrote, it's just that there's a real sense of soulfulness in a lot of the Gibb's writing that I don't think The Beatles ever quite hit upon. I love both bands, tho'. The two will most definately still be having their music played in hundreds of years from now.
