hip hop movie flashback: HOUSE PARTY

This came on late LATE the other night, I'd forgotten how funny some parts are & how many folks got their start in this flick...

Robin Harris: HILARIOUS, he had a LONG promising career ahead of him rose

Martin Lawrence/Tisha Campbell: Martin as Bilal the dj, VERY funny seeing him in any of his early films but especially in the scene w/ Tisha Campbell...

... now that we know them as "Martin & Gina"

Kid & Play: Okay, they're laughable now BUT they made a legitimate debut in film which let their careers ride longer than if they'd remained rappers only - smart move nod

On another note, I can't believe I used to think Play was cute confused Dude looks like Pepe Le Pew neutral

Full Force: DAMN - muscle shirts & curls falloff but I gotta say when they go into the dancing scene between Kid & Play/Sidney & Sherane "Ain't My Type'a Hype" still sounds good to the ear music I should be ashamed to admit that but I aint fight

Of course I can't find ANY stills from the movie mad but here are AJ Johnson (Sharane) & Tisha Campbell (Sidney) today, still friends:

John Witherspoon & Bebe Drake : Another on screen couple we've scene, but they're most popular together in Boomerang in this scene...

As for the filmmakers, I believe this was the first film for the Hudlin Brothers. They went on to do Boomerang w/ Eddie Murphy...

...& many other flicks & tv shows...

Random thoughts on a movie that still holds up - corny but good biggrin

Any thoughts/reflections? smile

I watched it again this year.. hadn't seen it since the early 90s.

I liked Kid's rap song from jail, over the break from "Kool Is Back" by Funk Inc.

I saw House Party 2 (perhaps better than the first!) and maybe possibly House Party 3, but I don't think I saw number 4.

Classic. My friends and I still reference that line.

We were OBSESSED with this movie! I was in eighth grade when it came out, and it was THE sleepover flick. biggrin You know you were doing "The Kid 'N Play" with your best friend at all your house parties! Admit it! razz

They filmed it in front of my best friend's house. My buddy was pulling tino his driveway and Kid was standing in his driveway waiting for the next scene and my buddy didn't know who he was and he told Kid "Move, fool!" LOL! Hilarious.

Then, just 5 years ago I almost ran Kid over at LAX (Los Angeles Airport) as I was dropping my pops off. I almost clipped his high-yella ass.

Then 2years ago I ran into Kid at a liquor store in West L.A....the funny thing is...he was walking. eek

about 8 years back, Play either tried to committ suicide or was suicidal and then turned to the church.

House Party 3 was hilarious because it had Bernie Mac and Chris Tucker and AJ Johnson - They got RAW with that version of the series. Bernie Mac's dinner table scene was the funniest shit ever.

Class Act = "House Party Continued" evillol
