Even though Badu, D'Angelo, and Scott have all had a few hits, I still don't consider them mainstream. They're alternative, somewhat underground soul.. Lauryn, on the other hand, sold millions of records. All of those records went at LEAST platinum. Even so, despite that, a few radio hits, and multiple award nominations/wins, have any of those three artists ever reached the level of superstardom that Lauryn once did? I'm talkin' 'bout R&B that's UBER-mainstream, and they aren't, as far as I'm aware (although this doesn't detract at all from the quality of their work, mind you ). | |

In my opinion, these singers are in a different class from Lauren. They did not have as much pressure placed on them as compared to Lauren....She was the one that had come from a group and when one goes "solo" there is a tremendous amount of pressure to succeed. Also, when someone attains "superstardom" as fast as she did, u are bound to crash and burn. As much as I liked the her cd, it really did not excite me as much as the one's by Jill,Erica, and Deangelo did. Those I can play without hesitation, especially Jill's. Lauren's CD has a tendency to sound dated. Even when it came out, I thought to myself, this kind of thing has been done all ready.
