The parts I don't like. just cuz you don't like it doesn't mean its not perfect. on the flip side of that, just cuz i do like it doesn't mean it is perfect. its like this...everyone says (insert typical beatles record here) is a masterpiece. i can enjoy (insert same beatles record here) but i fail to see how its a masterpiece. yet, it is. whether i think so or not. the same goes with miseducation.

Music is about personal taste....gee, di'nt know dat! Cool, it's a masterpiece for you. Miseducation is nowhere near the Beatles' shit in terms of universal appreciation, though, and don't front like it is! [Edited 6/13/06 20:15pm]

Clearly not on THIS thread But seriously, that's because it's new. How many of those lists put COLDPLAY on there since it came out in the last 10 years????

Everything Is still Everything. "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page

There are always ten or fifteen current trendy "hot" records on there from the past decade or so that are clearly NOT classics. This has already lost its luster for a lot of people, and she is NOWHERE. She and Radiohead and Alanis are simply not among best records of all time, but they *are* critical darlings!

I hate Radiohead, too - their shit will never mean anything to me.

Bingo! Discussing the definition of "masterpiece" is about as useful as debating what "musical genius" is.

I think it was as close to a perfect melding of solid production and natural talent as we've seen in pop music in a long time. I think both were equally deserving of the credit.
Without that sort of production, Lauryn's follow-up fizzled. The sad part is it seem's like it's going to be a kind of one-off masterpiece. Personally, I prefer Dionne Farris' gem, "Wildseed, Wildflower." That to me was even better. She didn't get the same media attention or promotion, unfortunately. I prefer her voice, her writing and that album's more organic and versatile production.
