Okay , i've played the albums from this group many times , and here's a result how good they sounded live . Great player, though I can never get that diss of Barry White's records out of my head. In a guitar magazine interview a while back, Ritenour gave Ray Parker Jr. props on his rhythm guitar chops as he recounted some of his studio sessions laying down cool tracks on those horrible Barry White disco records...

Great solo by Rit on "Strawberry Letter 23".
To throw Luke in there my favorite solos are "Hot Mama" by The Brothers Johnson There's this chromatic lick he does that always brings me to the woodshed. The line where George sings "I heard something something something you can dance every night and day" (right here) He also does one in "You Went Away" by Earth Wind And Fire. On the second solo he plays a melody twice then a straight up bebop lick. Ray Parker is another great one. Now I'm not into his "My Ghost Wants A New Drug and an issue of GQ stuff" but his guitar playing is tasteful. He doesn't get enough credit as a multi-instrumentalist either. He has this new song "Mismaloya Beach" with really tasteful playing. ...Wes Bound Always respected him as a player but found him rather stiff. Driving home from work one night I flipped to a station that was playing Boss City. Almost ran off the road when it was announced that it was Lee Ritenour playing. Very groovy soulful guitar playing. The only strange thing on this album (which is supposed to be a tribute to Wes Montgomery) is the inclusion of Bob Marley's Waiting in Vain featuring Maxi Priest. Some A&R person must have demanded something hit-like.
