You'd be surprised how smart a move that can be. A number of former music stars parlay their marquee value into more lucrative fields. Ain't mad at Devoe one bit.
Here in Nashville, a contemporary Christian rocker has done the same thing. And, dude's making bank.

It's a good move. So many are putting their faces on other peoples products (acne stuff and exercise things...). Putting his face on his own endeavor...I respect that. Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify

He probably makes more than those currently with record deals and on the charts.
But I understand the whoahness of it: seeing a celebrity doing normal employment. But that's the problem with todays stars. They think their 15 minutes will be forever. There is dignigity in being a star then having to go back to earth. Its those who can't handle that situation that we see as tragedies on E! True Hollywood Story etc

it may have been his true passion...and his earning from New Edition helped him achieve it. good for him!

yep, this was mentioned on here a couple years ago. Anyone catch the guy from CHIPs peddling real estate in those infomercials as well?

to him....real estate is HOT here in Atlanta.
he even has a radio show that broadcasts on Saturdays, but I don't know anyone who listens to it.

It's one of the wisest moves a person of his stature can make considering he wasn't the star personality of New Edition, just like Mike Bivins went the producer route and discovered Boys II Men, the secondary members of a popular group have to distinguish themselves somehow. I bet he's living quite comfortably on the income of the properties he controls, and the name recognition helps a lot. Jeux Sans Frontiers

yeah...its old news.
I'll give him credit for doing his thing. So many still just want the spotlight and kill themselves trying to get it back...ask his boy B.Brown. Maybe bobby should start a pharmacy.

The pay structure for informercials is different, though. The celebs are paid a set fee for the testomnial. It's a one shot deal usually with a buyout for their appearance on the project. By Devoe owning his company in as hot a market as Atlanta, he's probably made more, on a more consistent basis, over a longer period of time than the fee the standard C or D-list celebrity gets for hawking goods in an informercial. Granted, it takes longer to make the dough, but it's gainful employment as a business owner (!), which is a lot more admirable than ending up as a blurb on VH-1 as the dead child star who never managed to grow up, and couldn't stay out of jail, let alone keep a job as a productive member of society once fleeting fame eluded them
