I saw them for the first time last night on Leno. I must admit...I like them! They're different! I like different! see, that's what's keeping me "pro-gnarls", even though i'm getting a little sick of all the hype around them and hearing "crazy" all over the place as if everyone thinks they just discovered the freakin' lost continent or something. this is what pop music SHOULD be sounding like these days. this is what should be on the radio, this is what we SHOULD be getting tired of hearing about all the time. it's catchy, it's mainstream-friendly, and it's UNIQUE (as far as top 40 pop goes, at least). i really look forward to getting more tired of them, and i hope it inspires a trend of other cool music getting popular. more power to 'em, i say!

I don't like today's music much, but I didn't like much in the 80's either. In the 80's I listened to a lot of 60's & 70's music.
I thought early-mid 90's music got pretty decent, but enter Britney Spears and now music is like the 80's again. superficial pop. My Legacy

I actually saw the Spice Girls movie worst movie ever. Oh god...I remember boys in my class going crazy over Britney when that video came out. I didn't get it. I never saw that movie thank God. And yeah, I totally remember the hype surrounding that video. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

And what I love best about this is that I didn't have to go looking for it. Well, kind of. In my first 2 attempts to purchase the CD it was sold out. The thing that blows my mind about the Gnarls Barkley tune is that it sounds a lot like an old school R&B tune. And the fact that people are hailing this as a revelation makes me believe that stuff with that old school kind of production value is what people are hungry for.

The only thing making that song sound R&B is Cee-Lo.
Its not genius; its just pop. Its just been a little while since something with a real hook has been introduced to the pop market.

I know that it's shit, but I can't help myself. When I'm alone in my house, I'll listen to it at full volume, & always the cops come a'knocking, telling me "Sir....we've been recieving complaints about the music." Then I'll say, "I'm sorry pi..oh..I mean...officer. I'll try & keep it down." And they're always like, "Oh no, they're not complainin' about the loudness. It's just that it's shit." Illustrator said: It happened again.
Yesterday, the cops came knockin' on my door, sayin' that they've been gettin' complaints on how shitty the music comin' from my house was. So, this time I told 'em, I says, "Well, then, you gentlemen (actually one was a female, but I figgered that 'gentlemen' would put more zing into my zinger) must feel right at home, cuz from what I hear, pigs love shit." And as I said it, I was doing that twirly head thing.... They responded by beating my ass down with their billy clubs & then draggin' my half conscious carcass to the slammer for the night. I just got back. And I don't regret it a single bit. It's through my taste in music that I 'spress myself, dammit. If I couldn't do that, the terrorists win, don't they? My shitty music is my middle finger to the world, maann. Now... if y'all will excuse me, I'm gonna have me some Afternoon Delight, followed by the Rapping Duke & then Xtrina's Beautiful. I'm covering every decade baby. Illustrator said: Well, since I'm not sensing any love on this one,
guess I'll just have to start my own 'Shitty Music Appreciation' thread. Fuck all y'all one-sided thinkin' bastitches. YAWL ! Illu . I'm late but i had a BALL reading your stories . Keep it up , i'll keep ignoring . . . [Edited 6/18/06 12:38pm]
