some recommendations for a good musical day

The Surviving Elements: From Soul Survivor II Sessions
Pete Rock

-really great and funky instrumental hip hop.very nicely done.great for background, foreground, chillin',or dancing.

Dream On
George Duke

-fun and poppy funk.duke seems to be channelling e,w&f here, but it works.his voice is in fine form .he sounds....happy.

Yin-Yang
Victor Wooten

-now,I don't like everything on the double cd,but it is very well executed.the playing is great and there are some standount funk tracks on here.one side of the disc is instrumental and the other is vocal.bootsy even makes a great appearance,as do other top notch musicians.some of this cd is too smooth for me,but, iverall,I'd recommend it.

The First Minute of a New Day [ORIGINAL RECORDING REISSUED] [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]
Brian Jackson, Gil Scott-Heron

-this is a monster!i just discovered this and this is some of the funkiest music i've ever heard!it's jazzy,soulful,enlightened,painful,gleeful...all rolled up in one badass performance!there is spoken word here and there are great vocal performances.this music is funky on so many different levels.now, this is a recording from the mid-seventies so,the politics may distract you based on the named topics, but the story is still the same ,for the most part, now.just light one and as David Ryan Harris said,"groove..".

Live from the 9:30 Club [LIVE]
Mint Condition

-in a recent topic,it was asked who had the best musicians in a funk band.while i would never want to pick one band because so many did what they did so tastefully,a couple of folks mentioned Mint Condition.I have a couple of MC cd's and it was easily apparent that they are quality musicians.(I never understood why they weren't a commercially, bigger band.)If there was any doubt as to whether these guys belong on a short list of greats, buy this cd or download it and you will believe in Mint Condition. Y'a know,I would love it if they did an all instrumental cd.They are that good and that versatile. They can play anything. It might even be interesting if they did an album with Prince.

Blunted in the Bomb Shelter Mix
Madlib

-oh,man.this is a really special cd to me now.this is just classic old school, fun reggae and ska and the mix is flawless.madlib had full access to the Trojan Records catalog and created what is now one of my favorite cd's.another great Trojan cd is African Herbsman by Bob Marley. All just classic.

Thank you very much!I feel like I'm cramming for some big test.I gotta get as much quality music in my soul as possible.Maybe, one day,it'll save my life.A gunman will ask me if I've heard THRUST by Herbie Hancock and can tell him who's in the band .If I can it will save the world!lol.

Lo-Fi-Fnk :: Boylife (2006)

Wow! This album jams from start to finish. This is fastly becoming one of my favorite albums of 2006. Also, if you love electronic or electropop like Annie, Royskopp, Jay-Jay, eurodance, etc. This will rock you! You'll be the talk of your friends. nod Their sound is so new and fresh that it's hard to compare them to any artist out now. Very unique sound that will stay in your head for dayyyys. "Steppin' Out" is one of the best 'coming out' songs ever made I imagine. You'll dance your butt off to this album!
