I've never heard it, or the album it is from (Sneakin' Out, i think). I like some other songs by Stacy Lattisaw though.

I just thought of two more while listening to the originals while running today. (how sad is that that I even thought of a thread on the org while working out? rolleyes )

Two glam rock classics:

Slade - Cum On Feel the Noize (covered by Quiet Riot)

T. Rex - Get It On (Bang A Gong) (covered by Power Station)

In the 80s, I totally thought these were original songs. nod

Power Station's version of it is a damn good cover though. I almost started a thread about T. Rex vs. Power Station regarding this song.

Casey Kasem informed me on American Top 40 that they were remakes. smile

lol Good old Casey.

[b]A lot of Otis Redding's songs have been remade:

Try a Little Tenderness - Michael Bolton
Respect - Aretha Franklin

and one that a lot of people still credit as The Rolling Stones song

I Can't Get no Satisfaction - classic Otis Redding

Also, this one blew my mind:

Brittney Spears' - Ooops I did it again

is

Louis Armstrong's song!!

Stagger Lee...I've only heard Nick Cave's version. I don't even know who did the original recorded version of it, though I know the song's been around forever.

One of my favourite songs is Stevie Wonder's All I do
from "Hotter than July" 1980.
It was a blast hearing a 60's version with Tammi Terrell.
Stevie wrote that song as a teenager,

I can't tell if you're joking, but Otis was the one who covered that one.

For the person who didn't know, "Money (That's What I Want)" is by Barrett Strong.

Yup, you're right - I thought it was the other way around

Stones - Satisfaction - 1965
Redding - Satisfaction - 1966

That's what I get for listening to pops in his old age disbelief

But did you hear Louis Armstrong's recording? How is that a spoof? Was his voice altered to sing those same lyrics?

Ottensen

When I was about 11, I saw Diana Ross in Lady Sings The Blues, and had never heard the original recordings as done by Billie Holiday....it was such a shock to me when I finally did hear them in my later teens, Billie's voice was so haunting I was literally traumatized for days afterwards. I couldn't lsiten to Billie Holiday songs without being spooked until I got to college.

At about the same age my dad took me to see the Broadway musical Sophisticated Ladies with Phyllis Hyman (sp?), and prior to that, although he played a lot of Duke Ellington around the house, I didn't really pay attention to alot of the songs until I saw them performed onstage that night, suddenly I was able to recognize them once I would hear the originals lol

Other weird dalliances with covers include:

Judy Roberts'(80's jazz singer/pianist) Ohio Players cover "SWEET STICKY THING"

Aretha Franklin's Simon & Garfunkel cover "BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER"

James Taylor's Carole King cover "YOU'VE GOT A FRIEND"

Feist's (Canadian chanteuse) lo-fi cover of Bee Gee's "LOVE YOU INSIDE & OUT"

The first covers I'd heard as a kid, but Leslie Feist's Bee Gees thing happened last summer; the Bee Gees original I got a few months ago shocked the heck out of me it was so funky... cool

It is a genuine Louis Armstrong recording circa 1930's found on the internet and when I heard it I couldn't believe it! It's much slower of course and definitely worth listening to! I believe Britney has credited this song on her album's liner notes as well. . . . so how is this a spoof, again?

If you google Louis Armstrong Oops I did it Again you will find many links where you can download the song, it's really worth the listen, trust me you'll be shocked . . . .I'm listening to it again right now . . .The song was recorded in a Chicago studio in 1932 for the Decca label by Louis Armstrong and elements of Zilner Randolph's touring group. The song failed to make an impact on the charts and soon was forgotten until 60 years later when Britney Spears remade it . . . .and the rest is history!

Looking for my Louis Armstrong-rolling-in-his-grave emoticon, but I just can't seem to find it right now.
