Here's a good one: The first time I heard "Wild Thing" was the remake by X in the 80s. For maybe two years in high school I thought that was their song. Then my art teacher schooled me.

Well, since you admitted to that one, I'll divulge that when I was young I thought that "You Really Got Me" was a Van Halen song. lol

Afterhours REM (velvet underground cover)

It was weird, cause my very first roommate was way into Velvet Underground and got me into them. One day he HAD to play me one of their songs he thought I'd love. It was afterhours. And indeed, I fell in love, but couldn't help remembering it from somewhere. It bugged me for hours till I recognized it from some REM live concert footage that was played during the credits of some MTV special about them in probably 91 or 92. This was probably 3-4 years later. hmm

The original artist was Nina Simone.

This Masquerade - George Benson (The Carpenters)

Leon Russell did the original vocal version

Nowhere credible. Probably not true, but I could easily hear Bob singing it

I just thought of two more while listening to the originals while running today. (how sad is that that I even thought of a thread on the org while working out? rolleyes )

Two glam rock classics:

Slade - Cum On Feel the Noize (covered by Quiet Riot)

T. Rex - Get It On (Bang A Gong) (covered by Power Station)

In the 80s, I totally thought these were original songs. nod

Power Station's version of it is a damn good cover though. I almost started a thread about T. Rex vs. Power Station regarding this song.
