DARCEL WYNNE - The face of SOLID GOLD I didn't catch much SG-shows here in Europe but te German tv-network broadcasted any now & then some episodes . She had a very exotic image . The one shot above , is with J.T. Taylor from Kool & The Gang . http://www.sgdanceconnect...l_bio.html When i bought the album below , later in the years , it reminded me of her . Oh my Gawd, this is a weird trip down memory lane for me---I can't believe I remember all these people's faces!!!! And remember whenever they had a slow song in the countdown how it would always be some dramatic solo piece or duet, and in the duet one of the dancers would ineveitably be pushed to the floor "like a lover scorned" with that theatrrical broken-hearted look on their face???? And remember how at the end of the show Dionne would break out into the reprise of "Solid Gold"
"solid go--o-old filling up my life with muuu-sic..." ...damn, I'm old.

Wow! Memory lane...Didn't one of the male dancers die from AIDS a few years ago?
Darcel was bad but Pam had it goin' on. Dionne did a great job on that show but it kind of went downhill once Andy Gibb got on there. I used to get a kick out of watching a straight laced Marilyn McCoo (who I love) trying to belt out "You Dropped A Bomb On Me" by the Gap Band. Arsenio was great on the show too. He did standup on the show one time about the difference between black people and white people ordering food from McDonalds. Hysterical.

Solid Gold actually introduced me to Vanity 6 & the Time. I had heard they're songs a couple of times on the radio (well...the Time mostly) but it was on this show I first got a glimpse of what they looked like.
I remember when V-6 was on, >whew<..... on that day, I became a man.

My hand went straight to my nu....well, you know.... Prince also appeared on the show, singing "1999" on one episode.
He also did Little Red Corvette, where, when the song starts, he sitting on the drums.

Notably, when Vanity 6 sings "Nasty Girl",they edited out the moaning part after the second verse. And I missed Prince's performance of "Little Red Corvette".I was so pissed....when I went to school on Monday, everyone was talking about it.

Just a little tidbit.
Darcel actually married a former member of the Temptations (Glenn Leonard) and has a church on the north side of Houston. She still dances in the church and has aged well. About 6 years ago her husband was a client of ours and he pretty much looked the same as he always have with the same Afro and all. They actually live like 10 minutes from my job. I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

I remember Prince performing "1999" on Solid Gold. Right before he sang the last verse, He yanked his guitar off and threw it way up in the air behind the drum-kit before going back to the mic to sing "IF YOU DID'NT COME TO PARTY DON'T BOTHER KNOCKING AT MY DOOR!!" My cousin said "Whew! Prince sure does get into his performances doesn't he?I remember when V-6 was on, >whew<..... on that day, I became a man.
