How is this CD? I remember "Cult Of Personality" but as a whole, how is the rest of the CD?

Middleman and the cover of Memories Can't Wait by the Talking Heads are also some great cuts off that album. Still play the vinyl to this day. Unfortunately nothing they ever did after that was any good. But they are back together again and playing live. Vernon Reid is an amazing guitarist.

I think Time's Up is a good record.

One of the best CDs of th 80s

I was really disappointed with this album when it came out. I loved Cult of Personality but most of the other tracks really felt forced. I didn't and still don't doubt the ability of any of those involved, but they seemed too caught up in creating one sound out of all the different popular genres. It just didn't work for me. Open Letter to a Landlord is a perfect example of where that album went wrong for me.

Personally I believe it is one of their best, They were very young and hungry at this time, with something to prove. I'm not into Vernon as a guitarist as much as I am into Living Colour as a band, but Doug is a major inprovement to the band. I can say this for a fact as a band member, it is impossible to recapture a spirit that a band has when they are young and hungry. One can "know" the songs inside out and play them note for note but no longer "feel" them, and it's that "feeling" that shines thur within the music. I remember being at Living Colour debut cd release party at the Ritz in NY and they were on a mission, I never saw them again like that. I believe they now are much more accomplished musicians, but lack the unity as a band that they once had as on "Vivid" cd. Though no fault of any one member, band members grow musically in different directions and it becomes impossible to see and feel the music in the same way. I listen to songs I wrote 10 years ago and can't believe it was me, cause I no longer feel where I was at back when I wrote those songs. Life changes and moves forward hopefully for the better. Vivid is a great cd buy it and listen to it!!!

Every damn song on Vivid is a CLASSIC. Whoever said "landlord" was an example of where the album went wrong, you have no soul.

My husband loves Living Color and I have been forced to listen to their music for years. I have to admit that I do like their stuff now and this cd is very good. In fact, all their cd's are good once you get to know them.

Interesting thread. Personally, I find all the LIVING COLOUR albums to be top-drawer. VIVID was great back in the day and it sounds even better on the expanded remaster. TIME'S UP is probably their best record, but STAIN is personal fave (not for the pop-minded). I eagerly await remasters of these gems (I don't know of any plans).

Call me a rabid fan, but I'll take anything LC has put out over 90% of Prince's productions.

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Vernon Reid and Greg Tate because my band at the time, Amalgam, was part of this concert celebrating Hendrix's birthday that evolved around bands in the Black Rock Coalition. Vivid had already been out for some time and the only song I dug was "Cult of Personality". Although I was doing the all black rock band outfit myself, I was still jazzed to see that Living Colour won a Grammy. I favor "Times Up" much more. But as a band, Colour smokes live. Great musicians all around. Not really crazy about Vernon's lead style, but I respect him. Very smart cat.
