Melba Moore appreciation thread

"This is it", classic disco dancing jig

I was amazed the first time i heard "Lean on me", she held that note for ages...

Any other Melba fans here?

I love her early 80s stuff, much of it written/produced by Kashif:

"Love's Comin At Cha" (1982)
"Mind Up Tonight" (1982)
"Keeping My Lover Satisfied" (1983)
"Livin' For Your Love" (1984)
"Love The One I'm With" (1986)
"Just A Little Bit More" with Freddy Jackson(1986)
"Fallin" (1987)

but I also like many of her late 70s disco singles,epecially...

"This Is It" (1976)
"You Stepped Into My Life" (1978)
"Pick Me Up,I'll Dance" (1978)

What`s so sad is, just like you mentioned on the Stephanie Mills thread, she (Moore) has also released so many great albums,
but VERY few of them are available as cds shrug

I love Melba Moore....the first time I saw her was on Broadway in Purlie, and later in Hair...she is an awesome performer who deserved much more acclaim and attention than she received.

sad

If you like her, check out her early career and work done on Broadway productions....

cool

Melba Moore was and still is a great singer and it is very unfortunate that she had to endure such hardships in her life wink .

For sure! I have most of her early stuff on vinyl. She DOES still have an incredible voice that I wish we could hear more of!

No,her 80s music is strictly R&B....no new wave-sounding stuff.Kashif provided her with catchy uptempo jams ("Love's Comin At Cha","Mind Up Tonight",both of which are in the same vein as Evelyn Champagne King's "I'm In Love") and sexy slow jams ("Livin For Your Love").

70s disco classic of the day: "This Is It" by Melba Moore (1976)

(written by Van McCoy)

(chorus)
This is it
this time I know it's the real thing
and I can't explain what I'm feeling
I'm lost for words
I'm in a daze
stunned and amazed
by your lovin' ways

repeat

You smile at me
and suddenly
the wheels of love begin to turn inside of me
you said hello
I felt a glow
right then and there I knew I'd never let you go
cause I know,I know

(chorus)
This is it
this time I know it's the real thing
and I can't explain what I'm feeling
I'm lost for words
I'm in a daze
by your lovin' ways

The touch of you
is something new
nobody ever made me feel the way you do
it's heavenly
it's ecstasy
the way you make me feel when you make love to me
can't you see,can't you see

(chorus)
This is it
this time I know it's the real thing
and I can't explain what I'm feeling
I'm lost for words
I'm in a daze
stunned and amazed
by your lovin' ways

the touch of you
is something new
nobody ever made me feel the way you do
it's heavenly,oh
it's ecstasy
the way you make me feel when you make love to me

if it's evelyn champagne king-ish that's good enough for me. so maybe kind of electro funk sounding instead of new wave?
