Thank you for this thread. Oddly I've been refraining from clicking on it for aa while now...maybe because a small part of the music lover in me doesn't want to believe it's true...I was just rewatching the dvd of his tribute performance to Ray Charles on that allstar tv special...I must have been watching it pretty much when you started this thread sad ....

...the good ones just feel like they're leaving us too soon. Their legacies remain, but it's a sad and terrible thing to watch them go.

...I wonder who our kids or grandkids will have of that musical caliber for their generation....?

This is so odd, because I was just reading about this concert in a Beatles book I'm reading at the moment. And I didn't even know he was sick. sad

I got hipped to Billy's unfortunate illness, a month or so ago, when the dispute over his estate was making headlines. It didn't look good then to me.

Awesome talent.

The way I see it Billy is in a better place so lets celebrate his music and hope we can all walk on the gold pavement.

Awwwww I'm so heartbroken. I love Billy Preston. I remember watching him perform on some late night show a few years back. He was so into his performance. He was stomping his foot to the beat of the song. And he was so full of joy, It was like he hit the lottery. There are'nt too many cats like him around anymore. R.I.P Billy.

R.I.P. Billy!

I saw him two years ago together with the Funk Brothers in Hamburg. It was a great show.

He will be missed.

I remember I once saw a film called St. Louis Blues, a film based (very loosely) on the life of W C Handy...It starred Nat King Cole, Pearl Bailey, Ella Fitzgerald, Cab Calloway, Mahalia Jackson, Ruby Dee, Eartha Kitt...and playing Handy as a child, a young piano playing kid named Billy Preston, who, by age 10 was already being mentored by the likes of Ray Charles and Mahalia Jackson...

R.I.P. , Billy...

R.I.P. Billy Preston

I just learned today of Billy's death and i'm really sad.

Being a keyboardplayer, Billy Preston was my main influence as that when i started with the keys at age 11.He had a very soulful way of playing the keys in the true meaning of the word "soul".

One of my biggest dreams had always been to one day have Billy play on a record of mine - this had to die today now as well.

Peace to you brother, you will always be remembered.

Frank
