The Spyz? I thought they were over a long time ago. One of my favorite bands to hate. Thanks for the memories.

Man where in the hell is my boy 24-7Spyz?! He'll be here soon. Also my cat, Paligap. Yeah, this band is hard. Although I despise Jimi Hazel's stage name, he's a very good guitarist. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him." http://ccoshea19.googlepa...ssanctuary http://ccoshea19.googlepages.com

I just picked up Harder than You which I bought when it came out in 1989 but lost recently. Found it for 3.00 at a pawn shop. What a steal! I've always dug this band and Gumbo Millenium is a classic to me. Me and my friends use to play the hell outta that one. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

I guess they always reminded me of RHCP/Fishbone/Living Colour but they always came up short.

I think their pretty unique, but check out this review of Gumbo Millenium by Martin Popoff, pretty funny: I don't know what all the hype is about these guys. I'm sure a lot of it's the usual novelty of seeing Black guys play hard rock. Anyway, Gumbo Millenium is so frustratingly schizophrenic, mixing in equal doses bad funk, tired blues, irritating sampling, rap elements, and untuneful thrash metal like the worst of Bad Brains grab-bags. Close to completely unlistenable. As a road map, turn left at Living Colours's Time's Up, strip Fishbone's Caddy of it's jazzy chrome, drop a tab, and you're halfway there. [Edited 6/6/06 7:40am]

[Edited 6/6/06 7:40am] As a writer myself, it trips me out (in a bad way) when writers get too "writerly" and fall in love with their own words/witticisms. I betcha Mr. Popoff really thought he doin' something pretty badass with that review... Anyway, I dig Jimi Hazel's (what's his real name) guitar playing.
