Because the photos inside Tasty looked a lot like Donna. I noticed that right away when I bought the album. Hopefully it wouldn't be as lopsided as What's Love Got to Do with It. I know a lot of people love that film, but I thought it was just alright. Loved the performances and music (of course), but the film itself left something to be desired. Anyway, not pooping on your thread. May the film, if it happens, we worthy of the musical footprint she's left.

'What's Love Got To Do With It' is one of the best biopics, imo.Angela Bassett really should have won an award.Still,I think Donna's life story is far more interesting than Tina's and could make an even better movie,if it's done right.

She is a favorite of mine, but hell I wouldn't even see it. And if a big fan wouldn't see it, who would? If it happens, I'd guess a Lifetime double feature, back to back with the Fantasia story. So many idiots love to hate on the disco era, but 1975-80 or so was a fucking GREAT time to be an American. Shit, I thought the people that did the movie Studio 54 did, basically, a terrible job, but the subject matter is so rich, it has such a strong hold STILL in the American psyche, that it was actually a very enjoyable film, despite really not being very good, if you know what I mean. Let's briefly look at the disco era: Jesus, the War in Vietnmam was OVER, the economy was great (the days where 1 person with no college education at all could support an entire middle cass household), there was no AIDS, there was no crack, the music was unbelievable, chics had not gotten all fat and shit, and everybody was fucking everybody. Can you say Golden Age?

I mean you've seen this story a million times before.
Yes I have. I believe it's called "Behind The Music." As for the late 1970s, I'm so jealous of all the adults who could party recklessly, do as much drugs as they wanted, dance in the discos till dawn and have indiscriminate sex with any random hottie who wanted to hookup. Unfortunately for me, I didn't reach puberty until late 1979. From what I've heard, those who lived through the disco era experience of Studio 54 during that time truly were living a charmed existence. It would truly be awesome to make a real movie about the decadence of that era, bit I don't know if audiences could handle a movie about that today. The Studio 54 movie was crap, "The Last Days of Disco" touched on it but wasn't that deep, and "Boogie Nights" breezed through that era somewhat. A real in-depth movie about Studio 54 and the disco scene would probably be rated NC-17.

You beat me to it! I think it'd be a good role for Kelis, and it would be accurate -- given all of DS' heavy breathing in the 1970s.

A real in-depth movie about Studio 54 and the disco scene would probably be rated NC-17. Man, a definitive movie that just nailed this era with an ensemble cast is just screaming out to be made. Done right, by the right people, it would be HUGE. You are right - Boogie Nights had some elements of it, but there so much more that could be done. America is still obsessed with this period, even younger people who were not even alive then. But you CANNOT approach the 70s as camp a la "the 70s show" not that 70s as camp isn't entertaining, it just doesn't get to the heart of the times, the complexities and nuances and contradictions, thats the mistake people make when they do films and such. It's got to be done authentically. Part of the problem is that industry people are so clueless, they cannot get past disco being camp, rather than a massive society-wide social phenomenon - a very unique and interesting chapter in the history of our country. AIDS and crack and Reagonomics came on the scene in such a huge way all around the same time and just hijacked America. It has not been the same since. The disco era really was an American Golden Age. There won't be another like it.
