Of course this is bound to become a Madonna bashing thread anytime soon so i'll bow out before i'm accused of expressing a bias.

She´s REALLY skinny! "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

some of you are just too much sometimes. ol girl's about to embark on what is most likely a very physically challenging tour. she's been rehearsing for a month. its not surprising she's got about 2% body fat. go to the ballet sometime and you'll see how much more thin a dancer's body typically is.

http://www.madonnashots.com/1978.html You talk like the majority of ballet dancers don't have eating disorders. [Edited 5/21/06 10:20am]

i don't understand why you're showing me pics of madonna through the years. anybody at 48 is going to have a different body type from when they were 23, 30, 38, etc. her face is not gaunt or sunken in (unless she's making a goofy face like on that newspaper cover a few months ago), her body is not sickly looking. quite the contrary, in fact, as her body clearly has incredible muscle tone. a "disturbingly thin" person is not going to have the arm muscles or thigh muscles we see on madonna.
majority of ballet dancers have eating disorders, eh? been watching centerstage again, have you? , [Edited 5/21/06 10:30am]

majority of ballet dancers have eating disorders, eh? been watching centerstage again, have you? You can be disturbingly thin and have great muscle tone, you know. WTF is centerstage? Lots of female ballet dancers have come out and talked frankly about eating disorders, no surprise there. [Edited 5/21/06 10:31am]

What you call disturbing I call impressive dedication and hot. But then...I'm a fitness whore. I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

Physically, I find her unattractive now. "Take a Bow" was the last time I thought she looked hot. I don't know if it's age and how much she works out or what...Iggy Pop is the same way.

majority of ballet dancers have eating disorders, eh? been watching centerstage again, have you? , [Edited 5/21/06 10:30am] Well actually... You are correct as far as ballet dancers having a specific body type. Unfortunately those who aren't naturally a certain type have to "suffer" a bit. My first major was dance, and I had the opportunity to train with the Joffrey Ballet and Houston Ballet. The problem was that I was always a little too tall and a little too curvy. I'm close to 5'8" and when I was dancing I weighed under 120 lbs,but that wasn't skinny enough. I finally decided to pursue musical theatre because my body-type and background was more suited to that genre; in fact, my body-type became one of my assets. I wouldn't say that I developed an eating disorder, but I was always very weight conscious. As a matter of fact, I dropped so much body fat that I would quit having "cycles." It's sort of dangerous because later in life, that could lead to osteoporosis. Right now, I have hip and knee problems. Plus another chronic injury-related problem that flares-up. I'm going to be 36, and I finally decided to give-up dancing completely... well advanced, performance-level ballet and jazz classes. I'm just too afraid that I'm really going to have some problems later on. I retired from performing about 5 years ago due to that chronic injury, plus my knees were shot. (The hip injury just happened this year.) I'm not sure it relates to my past problems of trying to "fit" this image, but it might. As far as Madonna, didn't she say that she had a difficult time conceiving because of her low weight? The bottom line is that she is a little too thin, but it's true that that for a dancer it's not uncommon. I think that she is very careful about her weight. I don't know if she has an eating disorder, but I didn't have an eating disorder, per se, either. I was just way too thin.
