If ya can't see Prince on June 16, and if ya like Sonic Youth and happen to be in D.C... Just got this e-mail:
XM Satellite Radio is assembling a small audience of friends and fans of Sonic Youth for a taping session of a live performance on the evening of June 16, 2006 at XM's Washington, DC broadcast studios. The performance will air live on the Ethel XM station at 6PM Eastern time.
The seating for this special program is extremely limited and approximately 40 people will be chosen on a "first-come, first-served" basis determined by when their email is received at XM. If you are interested and are 100% confident that you can be in Washington, DC on the evening of June 16, 2006, please send an email complete with your full name and contact information to live@xmradio.com. Do not reply to this email. Make sure to include "SONIC YOUTH" in the subject line of your message to live@xmradio.com or your email will not be considered. If you wish to come with a guest - one other person only - please include that person's name and contact information (email and cell phone nos. are important in case there is a change in schedule) as well. If you are selected to attend, you will receive an email with the exact time and further instructions. Only people who have received this email will be put on the guest list and will be able to attend. Thanks, and hope to see you there. Wish I could go...hope this gets to someone who'll enjoy it.

actually, i guess if you had a car or figure out quick public transpo, you could do both the prince concert in the morning in NYC, then the sonic youth taping later that day in CD. it's a lot of schlepping, but hey...two free concerts in one day! of course, with only 40 seats, i'm sure the SY thingie is reserved to capacity by now...

I hope the new album is better than that snoozefest "Sonic Nurse". Keep your headphones on.

actually, i take my last comment back...i like their experimental noodlings on their geffen albums...the stuff on their own label, i just can't get with. i mean, good for them for taking the obtuse no-wave noisecore thing into new territory, etc. - but it's not for me.

saw them live at Lollapalooza once and they were incredible....most other people couldn't stand them though....esp. when they get heavy with the noise....but i love it....it's hypnotic if you ask me....and they are on tour with Pearl Jam now.....a great ticket.....and Eddie is still coming out before Youth takes the stage to do a few acoustic numbers.....they are all a bunch of incredible but humble musicians

i saw SY a couple of years ago in Columbus, OH - i thought they were nothing short of phenomenal. they can get an effect when their guitar distortion/feedback is in a certain kind of "harmony", i guess, where i can hear something that sounds like a choir. maybe it's my wonky hearing, but it freaked me way out (and i was sober as a judge, by the way i can't wait to see them at lollapalooza this year. thurston is amazing to watch, and kim is such a glamazon.
