Nelly Furtado covers Gnarls Barkley

Nelly Furtado did an acoustic cover of Gnarls Barkley’s international hit "Crazy" on BBC Jo Whiley’s Live Lounge this past Wednesday night. This is one of those instant classic live moments… really more Folklore-sounding than "Maneater."

Listen to and stream the full interview... plus an acoustic version of "Maneater" @ the link below

Paris is trying to get the rights to cover it on her album.

I think I'm gonna be sick sick

I applaud Gnarls for taking the single off the market in the UK. After 9 weeks @ #1, even they thought enough was enough.

Too late. I already hate that song. It sounds like a commercial for a car or a cell phone.

it really does, though i can't help but love the song anyway. though the ubiquity meter is starting to tick away, and i know i will be tired of them by the end of summer. sad

exactly, I can't see why everybody's drooling about Gnarls Barkley and how that god-awful song became such a hit! I've downloaded 'St. Elsewhere' illegally to hear what the hype is all about and I find it awful!!!!! disbelief

Well, Scissor Sisters used to cover Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out" during their first tour for their debut. Both of them hit it big in '04.

I think it's kinda cool Nelly chose this song, but she shoulda went with "Gone Daddy Gone," but then again that would've been a Violent Femmes cover. razz

CynicKill

Wow and I thought I was the cynical one.

You guys are really a cynic bunch aren't you? Yeah they might be over-hyped but I've heard worse.

"All I know is any new music made withing the next 50 years will be so five minutes ago"??? Now there's a sentence drenched in irony!

John Mayer said it best. When praised for his "evident" longevity he replied that people rally put way too much thought and anticipation into this topic. He went on to say really who knows? Who knew Kylie Minogue and Madonna would be as big as they are today? Who knew The Beatles would bve so influential on initial listen? You don't. "All I can do is work on my craft and develop as an artist and be the best I can be, and if an audience is willing to follow me, great". That's basically what he said and I applaud him.

Ciara and Blu Cantrell had one-hit-wonder detractors from their FIRST hit. One went on to have many others and most likely many more, the other faded. But no one has a crystal ball on the subject. Just sit back and enjoy the music.

That would be dudette smile But, it's easy to not like. It sounds like a commercial for a car or cell phone or something. shrug I guess I'm old school I like songs that sound like songs not like they're trying to get me to buy something other than the record.

But why is it being a snob not to like something? Is there some rule that because a certain percentage of people like something everyone must jump on the bandwagon just because.... confused
