I know nothing about Death in June, but I just bought a pretty nifty 2 disc Current 93 compilation titled Judas as Black Moth. It came out on Sanctuary last year and, while I'm not perfectly suited to judge how accurate a picture it paints given I know very little about this act, it seems like a pretty nice summary. I was slightly surprised at how organic it was musically as I'd always assumed they were a Nurse With Wound/Coil-style electronic-drone act. There's lots of acoustic guitars and folk melodies to be found here, and Nick Cave shows up on vocals on a few tracks as well. Some of the songs are quite lovely, and some I find vaguely irritating, but overall it's interesting enough for me to give it a fairly warm recommendation.

I'm completely unaware of any racist elements in their music. I know that C93 were loosely connected with Psychic TV and that lot, and, while those people were capable of pretty extreme behaviour and actions, I've never heard of any of them being associated with hate groups or bigotry in general.

Very much the case. Also loved by all kinds of racist undercultures, not just by neonazis.

3. would i be called a racist just by listening to them..

No. Neither of the members of these bands are genuinely racist or nazi-mided as far as we know. They have used the early 1900s German imaginery for shock effect and also poked fun on i.e. getting banned from playing in several countires because of these connotations. Hoever, this doesn't mean that their fanbase wouldn't have been attracted to the music originally because of these elements, or that these two groups didn't inspire a whole lot of other bands who in turn were genuinely racist. Racist/supremacist imaginery is VERY COMMON for many post-industrial bands, unfortunately.

Just don't join a neofolk discussion group, and you'll be fine.

i have that 2 disc current 93 comp too...i was a little underwhelmed by the ren faire-sounding stuff, but i love current 93's more atmospheric, ambient tracks. i was introduced to them when i was in high school, and a friend of a friend played the creepiest album i'd ever heard. i looooved it. it was too goth for school (figuratively and literally). i haven't given the comp a REALLY good listen, i'll admit, but it's a little hard to listen to it without giggling. it's sooo earnestly pretentious. i hate it and love it at the same time. i just wish i knew how to find that album i heard when i was younger, and i would love to find more of their music in that vein. i have one cd like that by them - it's called "faust".

Other bands in the same vein:

- Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio <- the most recommendable. (http://www.ordo-rosarius-equilibrio.net/gospels/09%20-%20Satyriasis/Satyriasis%20-%20Hell.mp3)
- Storm Of Capricorn
- :Of The Wand And The Moon:
- Von Thronstahl
- Tenhi
- Blood Axis
- Werkraum
- The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath A Cloud

...artistic quality may vary. Also the level of invoked mind-images of elves and dark dwarven kingdoms etc. I'm not big on this genre, to be honest, altough there are some quality artists there too. Basically it's music for people who like to run around in the forests wearing bandanas and search for ancient ruins. Also known as "nazi campfire music".
