I'm glad she revealed this aspect of herself. the cross sequence bugs me. not because its offensive or mocking or anything like that. it bugs me because here she is charging up to 350 bucks per ticket and high prices for merchandise all the while getting on stage telling people what they can do with their money. its like this: i have an idea, madge. how about putting your money where your cross is. how about flashing up a little note that says 10 percent of every ticket went to feed hungry people. how about using your "sacrfice" as an example of what others should do. you see, just like when ol girl got up and sang imagine, complete with lines about imagining no possessions shortly after she sued to keep people from hiking through her massive plot of land in england, it all comes of terribly disinguine. the cross was the least of problems of that bit. | |

and therein lies the problem with her getting up on a soapbox during this particular tour. there's nothing wrong with making a statement but there's a proper time and place. madonna is not u2; her live attempts at political commentary come off awkward at best. part of what annoys me is that i am very active with amnesty int'l, un groups, and other grass roots organizations. i give money as well as time (because its not only about cash). i paid 165 bucks to have fun for the night and i just don't appreciate madonna getting up on a multi-million dollar disco tiled cross, stiking a jesus christ pose, and making some undefined statement about sacrifice all the while knowing its going to cause controversy. its insulting to those of us who take these things seriously and have been on the frontline. so to speak. | |
