With the release date about 2 months away, trailers for the Vice movie have been testing poorly in most markets. Mainly the problems are coming from the music within the film. In the trailer, Jay Z and Linkin Park are the background music, talk about lame. Well i saw the trailer and i just think the movie will be bad. Which is a surprise because original director Michael Mann is on board, but it seems he is changing too much to fit with 2006. I understand where not going to get the "fashion" and "Feel" of the 80's , but what Miami Vice did that was most important at least in its first 2 seasons, was its use of music to enhance a storyline. The use of JayZ and Linkin Park is a "cop" out. Im not saying use Phil Collins "in the air tonight" again, because it wouldnever be the same, but get some music that means something in there. Another fact is that they Wanted Edward James Olmos to reprise his role as "castillo" but he turned it down, i think he knew what a disaster this film is going to be. Sure it will make money, but from the trailer, the word im hearing from insiders about people being fired from the movie because it just wasnt going well, it seems to me like money is about all it will make if its lucky. And dont even get me started on Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell.

Whoa your post is great. There was something about the trailor that turned me off. I didn't think too much about it but yeah the music was a big part of it. They should've definitely used some Nelly or something. I wouldn't worry too much though because it's fixable just realease another trailor with party music. Even if it is a "gritty" movie put party music in the background of the trailor.

Ugh, how dull. Are they gonna "jazz up" the already great theme tune too?

They'll probably fuck it up by slowing the tempo way down and playing it over a weak hip hop beat. Probably the same way they fucked up the "Soul Train" theme.

That movie looks like it was supposed to be a big "summer blockbuster" but omg, what total crap.

I don't like that Linkin Park song either.

They should have made some 1980s sounding music similar to the music on the TV series. Hopefully, the movie would have been a hit and the music might have caught on. Hell, anything to get us out of this musical rut we're in. Hell, I'm desperate.

Is it an action flick or a comedy? I always imagined they'd approach it a bit like Starsky & Hutch and just use a retro soundtrack.

I've heard similar tales of woe about the film. Michael Mann is, in my opnion, one of the greatest living directors, and this should have been right up his street, a cakewalk, but I had my doubts asbout it from the moment Colin Farrell was cast as Crockett. He's an overrated actor who's pissed away the potential he showed in both Tigerland and even Minority Report. Jamie Foxx was excellent in Collateral, and is a good actor, but in the trailer at least, he looks like he's modelling sunglasses. I hope I'm wrong.

She doesn't need to be on the soundtrack. She needs to play one of the crackhead drug users in the movie. She could win an Oscar.

Some things are better left alone.....like TIGHT BAGGIES (Tubbs) and tight pink t-shirts(Crockett).....Why tha F**K they gotta re-make everything?????

I'm not sure why they decided to go through with the Miami Vice movie after the failures of Bewitched, The Honeymooners, and The Dukes of Hazzard. They're going for a hip-hop version, but since we already had both Bad Boys I and II, Ice Cube's "All About The Benjamins" and CSI: Miami on TV, this movie isn't really necessary.

A 2006 "Miami Vice" makes about as much sense as a mall tour now of days. It's not the same world. I never liked "Miami Vice" to begin with but you certaintly can't make it modern....it was all about the eighties and not much else. That's why it worked...

728Huey makes a great point but this was probably greenlit before those bombs...I see an end to all these remakes of TV shows and his just might be the bomb to do it. BTW, I think "Dukes" made it's money back (it was probably close, though).

i'm proud to say i was one of the people who screened this movie. i'm one of those who gave it a big ol' thumbs down! it was a while ago but i do remember saying the music on the preview was disinteresting.

Hollywood is lazy and has run out of ideas. "Welcome Back Kotter", "Dallas", and "Green Acres" are coming to the big screen soon.

U CANNOT make a damn movie about every TV that was on.
