An Idea For An "American Idol" Type Show (Although It Would Never Happen)

First of all, let me start out by saying that I never watch "American Idol". Since I am as "vain" as my screen name, I have my reputation to think about. evillol However, as I sat, bored to death, through the contestants last night just to see if Prince would actually lower himself to do that show, it got me to thinking. The reason I find the show so boring is because it is about singing contestants and a person can be the best singer in the world but if they don't have good music behind them, they bore the hell out of me.

Anyway, I think a good idea for a show like that would be to split it into two categories, a singing competition and a battle of the bands competition. So many of those singing contestants have gone on to have singing careers so why not launch some band careers also. Hell, some of the singers might even hook up with some of the bands and join forces. It could be the start of getting music back on the right track.

Of course, it would never happen because these record labels, radio stations, and video networks would rather save money and promote just a lousy ass singer with some stripped down music. They would never let progress happen but it was just a thought.

That's just it - it's not a singing competition. If it were, Taylor would have been out a long time ago. It's a pageant; who's the cutest, most likeable and would look okay in a video. If it were less so, I would follow it more regularly.

Now what is sad is that they can't even pick the proper pageant winner, anymore. What we get is some 29-year-old dude who looks like your 55-year-old black sheep uncle. And his fans call themselves Soul Patrol, another reason to exterminate them before they breed! mad

lol I don't have strong feelings one way or the other about him per se, but it's very indicative of the taste of their viewers and voting audience. Taylor's odd stage presence is about as challenging as they wanna get. So be it.

Yeah, but they never made it out to be a "who's the best singer" competition. The judges and producers of the show have always said they're looking for "the whole package". It's about trying to find an "idol"; someone likeable and marketable.

And I didn't contend that they had. Just stating my feeling on the show as is. smile

Yep, he lost another notch of respect from me also. When I heard the opening music for "Lolita", I was like Thelma Harper on "Mama's Family" when she babysat the reverend's little demon grandchild and went in her restroom to find that he had put shaving cream all over the place. I was like.....

LORD, tell me he didn't!.....PLEASE tell me he didn't!.....HE DIDDDDD!!!!! lol

Regis? barf
He will strike its death-nell in my book.....he is too conservative, too judgemental, and too interested in himself....
the show sounds like it could have great potential, though, if they were to choose another host! hrmph

I bet bands are the last thing that would be booked on that show though. It would give the music industry a scare and they wouldn't want that. lol

You're a better person than me. I had to watch it just to see if Prince was actually going to go through with appearing on there. However.....I usually record Prince's television performances but I didn't even pull out a VCR tape because I didn't want that appearance on tape because of the show it was. I'm known for sticking to my guns. lol You should have seen me when he performed with Beyonce. I wasn't expecting that so I had recorded it. Afterwards, I pulled the rolls and rolls of VCR tape from the plastic cartidge, ripped it in half, and then slammed it in the trash can. I hate shit hop and everything associated with it. evillol
