Does anyone on this site listen to artist other than mainstream?

Enough with the MJ, Madonna, Janet!!! How about listening to something other that what the media dictates whats hot! Do yall realize that less that 1% of all new music that gets recorded ever get played on mainstream radio? Judging from the topics on this forum I seriously doubt that many of you get your music from any other source than from mainstream radio. Otherwise why would you be interested in those artist? Shout out and prove me wrong.

It doesn't seem like you've bothered to read many of the posts here. A lot of the people on this forum are extremely schooled.

Like, OmiGod! You forgot Britney, Justin and Xtina. Add MJ, Janet, & Madonna.... what more do you need? I would never listen to that boring, dopey, mopey, whiney alternative crap. It's sooooo lame.

If it's not on the radio or TRL, I couldn't care less!!!!!

many of the people on this site like other things other than mainstream artists. and some even prefer it. however the site is dedicated to a popular music artist; it's the pop/mainstream that brought us on this site so to speak. many orgers have shared or introduced new music or obscure artists with others here on a regular basis.

it's the popular artists whos threads get the most responses and that's understandable. they're more popular. nothing wrong with that. shrug

nor should we discredit radio all together. sure..for the most part it's usually crap or the same ten songs over and over, but radio like any other source of information has brought us good and bad. though in recent years it's mostly the bad. lol

yep. my favourite artist is as mainstream as it gets. however my choice was not made by what was fed to me. like anything else..if i like it , i like it. if i don't i move on to something else. shrug

I personally try not to read about mainstream artist, the topics have been overdone. No insult to those few on this site who may be "extremely schooled", but like I said, judging from the forum topics, I suspect there are few who fall under the catagory of "extremely schooled", just that a look at the list of forum topics and you will agree with me.

Um, no I won't. Topics mean jack shit. I've been here for 3 years. If you want some lessons, you can orgnote theAudience, DavidEye, paligap, Finesse, and many others. I'm sure they won't charge you.

If you are so interested in diversifying the forum, then you should take the initiative and make some threads.

I came to this site because of Prince, not because Prince was popular but because he was Prince. I was into Prince long before he was popular or "mainstream". I am into an artist because I find them talented not whether their music is played on mainstream radio or not. Prince is extremely talented and one of the very few artist on "mainstream" radio who is talented. don't get me wrong I too have been exposed to up and coming new artist thur "mainstream radio every once and a blue moon. But how much more is there to talk about MJ, Mary J, J Lo, Madonna, Janet? It's all been said, meatloaf can only be cooked so many ways. As a "good music" expect, I find very little interest in those artist, if any at all, not to say that there are artist on mainstream radio who do not produce "good music", but they are so well know there is nothing informative to discuss on them. "Been there done that"!!!

this thread is noise.

there are so many threads, not to mention posts, about non-mainstream artists. and if jw1914 clicks on any of the "what are you listening to right now" threads he or she will get a much better idea of what people in this forum are digging on.

i'm thinking with a screenname like jw1914 you are familiar with the uninformed making general, overarching assumptions about you. try not to pay that forward, ok?

So start some threads about artists you DO want to discuss. You will find people also want to discuss them. It's very simple.

VoicesCarry, not to blow my own horn, but I've been here long myself, and yes commenting on topics do mean something, it shows a persons interest. And I agree that there exist a few who are knowledgable and schooled but they are only a few, and that was my point! Did you bother to look at the recent list of topics on the "non-prince topics" forum obviously not!!!

Again I rest my case. Look at the recent list of forum topics and can you honestly say the artist of those topics has a listening ear for "good music" or "pop music"? Some of you may have taken this topic as a insult personally, although this was not intented, if you find topics about MJ, or Madonna, or PDiddy and the like of interest then you should feel insulted. Upgrade your music listening, then you will see what I'm talking about. "When I was a babe I use to think as a babe". "Solid food belongs to mature ones".

Apparently Mr. jw1914 doesn't know what he is talking about....
Anyway, I listen to stuff like Parliament, Bootsy, Slave, Average White Band, Zapp & Roger, Isaac Hayes, Rick James, Cameo, Sly & The Family Stone, The Ohio Players, The Bar-Kays, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Meters, Con Funk Shun, James Brown, Graham Central Station, Kool & The Gang, The Isley Brothers and Prince (of course wink ). Most of these artists ain't mainstream nowadays and I was born in -87 so I wasn't even around when these artists/groups were at their peak.
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

just to humor the little guy...

sufjan stevens, !!!, black rebel motorcycle club, blonde redhead, chicks on speed, le tigre, mahogany, arcade fire, wolf parade, youth group, broken social scene, red house painters, and death cab for cutie are just some of the threads of the recent past that have been in this forum.

are they less frequently occurring than threads on janet, madonna, and mj? sure. they're also a zillion times less popular. perhaps instead of making judgements on something as silly as others' music taste, you would care to enlighten some of us musical misfits on the many artistic treasures you regularly enjoy?

FuNkeNstein, judging from the list of your recent replies to forums I would not put you into that catagory, but repling to forums on R Kelly and Madonna would put one into that catagory.
