If Vanilla Ice Had Not Gone Hardcore

OK.."Ice Ice Baby" is one of the best rap/pop songs EVER IMO. However, Ice's song "Cool As Ice" is just as catchy IMO. What does that matter, you ask? Well I'm getting to that in a bit.

Next..Here is Vanilla Ice's discography to date.

To The Extreme (1990)
Extremely Live (1991)
Cool As Ice (Soundtrack) (1991)
Mind Blowin (1994)
Hard To Swallow (1998)
Bi-Polar (2001)
Platinum Underground (2005)

I've bolded his "hardcore" albums (for lack of a better word.)

So now back to my question, suppose Vanilla Ice continued to make music like the stuff that was on "To The Extreme" and the "Cool As Ice" (Soundtrack), does anyone here think it would be better? Would his music career still have hit the skids? (Yes the music might have sound dated, but personally I think it was catchy. I mean imagine if Ice tapped into his "90s" pre-"hardcore" voice and worked with The Neptunes? I mean I realize he kind of became out of style like MC Hammer did. However, I really think he is under-rated as a lyric writer. (I know I'm going to get shit for saying that, but oh well.) So what does everyone think about this? Okay well I'm out. Yeah, laugh all you want. However, that is why I put "rap/pop" and not just "rap" in general. Don't act like you didn't dance to "Ice Ice Baby" when it comes on. razz

I'm by no means saying it is one of the best songs ever written. Just saying, it is is the best for what it is. (I think)

Ice, Ice Baby was actually a great pop song.

"To the extreme I rock the mike like a vandal"

I think those were the lyrics.

It was hella catchy.

Ice blew himself up by making bad movies--"Drop the Zero and Get With the Hero". With the arrogance. With the fake resume to make him appear more like Eazy E when he was more Pat Boone. And with the OVEREXPOSURE! Once you appear in a mutant ninja turtle movie, it's all over...

Some people tell me I've got great legs...

nod Yep...that was another nail in the coffin, so to speak. If only Ice had just fessed up to using the song, rather than try to say it was different. Things might have gone a *little* better for him.

He's trying to describe the nature of a repetitive melodic phrase. His starts with an extra note of the same pitch. nod

But there's no denying the source mechanical recording. no no no!

I wasn't really into V-Ice when he was "popular." So thanks for clearing that up for me. I thought perhaps he was still "popular" to the masses by the time his Cool As Ice soundtrack and movie came out. However, was his star already fading..? hmmm

This may sound like a lame-o question but was "Ninja Rap" a big hit song? Or was it just due to the Ninja Turtles Movie that people knew it?

At any rate, I can see why once you star in a kiddy movie, and before that lie about your background, your music career probably isn't going to land you anywhere good.

Ice Ice Baby was dope!!! I first heard it on Kiss FM in New York at night when they played hip-hop. Vanilla was dancing with background dancers, never seen a white guy do that. He was hot for a minute. He made some ppl in the business rich. Find a white man who can perform like a "Black man" lotta money to make..
