Late '80s dance pop / dance rock (+ obscure stuff from this period)

I'm having a thing for Late '80s dance pop @ the mo'

Could someone recommend some titles from 1987-'89 (even '90 or '91)?

I dig something along the lines of...

Fine Young Cannibals :: The Raw & The Cooked
Neneh Cherry :: Raw Like Sushi
The B-52's :: Cosmic Thing
Pet Shop Boys :: Actually
INXS :: Kick
Terence Trent D'arby :: Wishing Well
Technotronic :: Pump Up The Jam
Robbie Nevil :: C'est La Vie
Depeche Mode :: Violator

That kinda vibe. Something I can party to, get my dance on to. That's danceable, dance rock, electronic or Hi-NRG or new wave.

Doesn't necessarily have to be mainstream. The more obscure, the better. Even if it wasn't a hit and you find it danceable, please let me know. Thanks.

I'm not if sure if Affection belongs on this list. You probably have it already.

Prety Hate Machine is an obvious choice.

That was my first PIL album. It was the year I left house/freestyle music behind and jumped into alternative with both feet.

damn, i might like some of that industrial stuff. I may look into some u guys listed. Thanx.

On a pop tip, these are essential and pretty much make up my fav albums ever...

New kids get a hell of a remix with this album. If its the freestle remix of "cover girl", or the hiphop of "no more games", to the hyperbole of "call it what u want" ( one of c and c music factory's finest moments), then u need to get this. "please dont go girl" never sounded better either. A hell of a long way from the orginal songs.

others

Spunkadelic "spunk junk"
Was not was "are you okay?"
Christopher max "More than phsyical" (nile rodgers synth funk attack)
Guys next door
PC Quest
Tiffany "new inside"
marky mark "music for the people" "you gotta believe" (got a flippin' awesokme remix on the single) "good vibrations"

bryan loren "music for the new world"

Songs.....

robbie nevil "just like you"
Kevin Paige "dont shut me out" "anything i want"
Chris cuevas "hiphop" (produced by jellybean). Good luck finding the 12" though, its hella rare. Album dirt cheap though
Amy grant "every heartbeat"
hammer "this is the way we roll" (cd remix)

.....

hey, the author wanted dance pop. Lilgish and sexton gave the industrial stuff, u and i gave the commercial stuff. Shit, if ur a "true blue" madonna fan, u should like it, and i know some of u like that album.

I dunno. I've been accused of being a Madonna "hater" (the official overused word of prince.org).

Its just pure pop. No hint of rnb or soul in it, just like "true blue". Unabashed pop would be a better word i guess.

Get the whole album "heart in motion". "good for me" "baby baby" "galilio" are good pop songs if ur looking for what mara might be?

Again, like the vast majority of pop and rnb from this era, its producer driven. In this case, Michael Omartian and Keith thomas.

The problem with that album is that the single remixes (video versions) are much better. "Baby Baby" is the only single that wasn't improved tremendously. In particular, the remix to "Every Heartbeat" is my favorite. Ah, my childhood days...

Really? I was too young to remember (i would of been 5, and my first music video i remember was proberly "you cant touch this", and that thing was on every 5 minutes back then)

I'll keep a look out for the 12" singles. I dont think she did that well in the UK, but u never know.

My fav is "every heartbeat" and "good for you". It's great to hear the album during summer. I hear it sometimes to cheer me up on my way to work.

She recently released a hits compilation. The second CD contains the remixes of "Every Heartbeat," "That's What Love Is For," and "I Will Remember You." Sadly, they left off "Good for Me" for some unknown reason.

The Thrill Kill Kult was the only real industrial band I mentioned. And that album was very lounge/campy--not like their older records at all.

My other suggestions are closer in sound to Depeche Mode I guess. Except for The Sisters which are goth-disco obviously.

If you like (or can at least tolerate) Mariah, their remixes from her 1991 album Emotions are good.
