MJ visits Japanese orphanage

http://news.yahoo.com/s/a..._jackson_8

Michael Jackson visited a Tokyo orphanage Sunday during his first round of public appearances since being acquitted of child molestation charges last year.

Jackson was in the capital to accept MTV Japan's "Legend Award" during an earlier ceremony at Yoyogi Olympic Stadium. There, he choked up as he thanked fans for their loyalty.

His visit to Japan is the first leg of an Asian swing that will include stops in Singapore; Shanghai, China; and Hong Kong.

After weaving through dozens of screaming adult fans outside the downtown orphanage, Jackson was ushered into a gymnasium, where more than 160 children between the ages of 3 and 18 and nuns in gray uniforms waited.

"I love you," Jackson told the cheering crowd. Then he whispered to his translator, apparently asking how to say the phrase in Japanese. Then he said: "Aishiteru!"

The pop icon also was scheduled to tour Tokyo and meet with members of the Asian business community during his six-day visit, his publicists said.

Jackson's visit to Tokyo was announced only days before his Friday arrival.

Jackson, 47, has been living in the Middle Eastern kingdom of Bahrain since being acquitted of child molestation in California in June. He has said he plans to return to recording and hopes to release a new album in 2007.

Not to sound overly depressing but do most of these kids even know who he is these days? I mean seriously...it isn't like MTV is pumping Thriller like it is 1984. Yes he is Michael Jackson, but I don't think many kids are even aware of him or his music's legacy. It isn't like he is Spider-Man. razz

Course they know who he is. He's the man their parents have warned them not to accept Jesus Juice from. lol

No-one disputes the fact that he's eccentric.

Just the supposed "fact" that he's a paedophile.

I'm not a parent by any means, but I really hope for those kids' sake, wearing those "masks" does not make them resent their dad later on. In spite of how hard Michael tries to be a good dad, the man does need help for his past. He had a crummy childhood and writing songs about it, and speaking about it to Diane Sawyer and Martin Bashir won't fix it. He needs a good doctor and perhaps some good medication to help him get over his past demons IMO.

Beyond that, his kids are so adoreable. smile

I am a Michael fan and defender till the end. I was one of those people who went to Santa Maria, so I'm not laying into Michael. However, I'm also not one of those fans who thinks Michael was "alright" and "fine" in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and 2005. By all reports he was drugged up really good for the trial, and out of it. And in LWMJ and TT:The Footage You Weren't Meant To See, he looked like he was drunk or on some sleeping meds or both. And he clearly balled over his childhood, so it is an issue. All I'm saying is I want to see the man get help and get his shit totally together and move on with his life. Nobody should have to be that sad and hurt on the inside. Michael deserves so much better than that. I'd hate to see him live with his pain and never have anything done about it. That is all I'm saying....

Oh yeah and one more thing....

You sent for me..?

I believe he got help for a drug problem before the trial started. At the same time it was most likely nothing major. Probably pain killers again. The only time he ever talks about his childhood is when other people bring it up. He says he forgives his father and they seemed to interact pretty well with eachother during the trial so I have no reason not to believe him.

Bottom line is, you've never sat down one on one with him and you don't know his state of mind at this point in his life. You are in no position to say what he "needs" to do. The only thing he "needs" to do is get back to what he loves. Making music.
