Its been a while since i listened to current music, a few monthes ago a friend of mines played me the track When The Stars Go blue, it sounded like an acoustic 70's track. I was supremely surprised it came out from Ryans album Gold, which came out in 01.

My fascination began to grow as i checked out his catalogue more, and saw his ability as a song writer to be phenominal!

He's truly a star that deserves world wide recognition and yet he doesn''t...
i find it extremely frustrating that i never heard of him until only a few monthes ago?

wtf is wrong with the world?
have we all been blinded by popish slush so long we can't acknowledge real talent anymore

i havent bought an album in 2 years, yesterday i bought 3 of his.
cause he deserves it

ryan is awesome. it is funny, everytime i tell someone of him, they think i'm talking about BRIAN adams. it is to the point, that if i even mention him, i say "ryan, not brian, adams"

about a month ago, i saw him live solo acoustic. he is a great performer. he can totally rock, or do very intimate, emotionally raw, sensitive ballads.

one of the things that gets in the way of his success is his erratic behavior. he cancels shows (i know he cancelled twice in a row on me), he shows up to shows totally baked, he can be a very temperament. he is one of those artists that walks that fine line between wild life and self destruction.

that aside, he is probably my favorite current song writer, and buy all of his stuff.

I think he is a good artist.. Love is Hell (Both ep's) are very good material.. I think releasing 3 albums in one year was a bad idea.. good for the die hard fans, but the rest of us are weeding through it.

I also think he has a crap attitude.. he seems very cocky and it seems the artist that work with him, don't have much to say bout him.

I think I need at least another 2 years before I'm ready for a new
Ryan Adams album.

But The Suicide Notebook (canceled album, think Prince Crystal Ball)
is among my fav albums by any artist ever.

The guy's a genius, but as with all of them, he's not without his problems or imperfections. Ive seen him live 4 times now with widely varying results. Last time i saw him (in Feb) he combined some of the most awful performances Ive seen given with some of the most beautiful, heart felt renditions of his songs. It was such a stark contrast.

I personally count him among my top 3 artists, not just because he is so prolific, but i find the consistency of his work outstanding. No one can tug on the heartstrings like he can, as one listen to Heartbreaker will confirm.

As for releasing 3 albusm last year, at first I thought he was mad, but now I have them all, there isnt anything id want to change about them. All are beautiful in a different way. I have close to everything hes done (out of whiskeytown), and his unreleased albums The Suicide Handbook and 48 Hrs are both as good as anything he's released (save Heartbreaker -his best record)

I dont think he's underrated in the sense that the people who are aware of him, his fans, think he's the best fucking thing on the planet, although their loyalty is tested by his behaviour sometimes.

The Suicide Handbook is one of many unreleased music LPs by Ryan Adams. It was recorded at Javelina Studios in Nashville, Tennessee sometime in early 2001 (possibly January) soon before Adams' album Gold was recorded. It is a subdued acoustic record similar to Heartbreaker, but in contrast to Gold's higher level of production and more complex musical arrangements. Like Heartbreaker, it has a sad, sentimenal tone concerning the breakup of an intimate relationship (while "Idiots Rule The World" would give political overtones to anybody who hadn't heard the song, Ryan has claimed on live bootlegs that "it's about not being able to score chicks").

Suicide Handbook is traded amongst bootleg collectors. It contains audible pops and other audio infidelities that are the result of the original audio transfer from the master recording.

I heard he was a jerk.

I don't know his work, but I loved that song "New York, New York."

i know it's funny, but somehow i found similarities between Ryan and Prince.
i love them both, and big part of the fascination is the fact that you can never really know what kind of material (or of what quality) to expect. and of course they are both quite prolific...

i've been fan of Ryan since Whiskeytown times, and i must admit that i have nearly lost interest few times already, but always he comes back with great stuff. IMO last year was terrific! Cold Roses, Jacksonville and especially 29 were all great! Rock'n'roll is the only album i dont like, and Demolition is also quite uneven.

seen him live twice, first time he was great. funny, talented, captivating.
second time he was too high. boring.

Best album? Heartbreaker (debut, quite acoustic and very mellow) is maybe the best... but Gold (rockier), Love Is Hell (very plain and acoustic and sad) are excellent as well.

Almost all albums are safe bets, except for Rock'n'roll which stands out as a too little strokish and too much stadionrockish album. And Jacksonville City Nights is his most trad country album, but a fairly good one.

funny thing is that he's so craving to be a rock 'n roll-star that he'll never be one.....I love the tragedy about that! The Rock N Roll album was a big 'fuck you' and it sucked, and he knows!

I love Ryan Adams, saw him live twice, once acoustic and once with band.....very good!

you get alot of filler mixed with alot of remarkable songs
