you have missed the point. it's not about just because it was a "Stevie Wonder song" its about knowing your craft. If they want to be the "American Idol" then you are obviously signing on to a "musical" career that you are trying to achieve.

I mean is it too much to ask to at least know some famous talented singers who were where they had been?? Especially if the Idol is putting the legends on the show and you are singing one of their songs, that they put their blood, sweat, and tears into?

How is knowing who Stevie Wonder is, going to help them sing better??? These are singers, not music historians.

It seems like reading music or singing in key would be more important skills than knowing about music history.

WHY NOT KNOW WHO HE IS??? AFTER ALL THEY ARE SINGING HIS SONGS!!!!

If you are trying to get a job as a computer programmer at Microsoft but you don't know who Bill Gates is and how Microsoft got to where it was wouldn't you look really stupid???
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

and people wonder why most of the songs on the radio now are nothing but shit...it's because they just know to just "SING" and thats it. They don't know nothing about writing songs, or actually knowing the feel of music and artists who have been there, and written legendary songs with their heart and soul, or even learned to play instuments or read music.

You wonder why kids know 50 cent songs word for word, but don't even know who Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, or Jimi Hendrix was. Not even Stevie Wonder in this case. Most artists from back in the day stuggled to get their music to even play on the radio!!! There definitely weren't any reality shows to help "reel" them in.

But this is it, this is all i will say, if you disagree with me, then so be it and finger
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

if you're offended by someone not knowing a Stevie Wonder song, then you are.

wow, ok yall obviously take this a tad more serious than me.
i feel the points on here, but as far as i'm concerened knowledge (not just musical knowledge but all kinds) dont mean jackshit if u dont know how to apply it. so katherine could be an expert on meatloaf, bach, jimi hendrix and billie holiday, but it aint gonna do a damn thing for her or her career if she cant apply it to what shes doing.

as far as her researching or not researching meatloaf, ahh whatever. atleast she was honest about it and spoke truthfully and n e way it was an interesting experience for her and she probably took something away w/ her from the experience, which i think, helps u more than reading someones bio or listening to a song or two just because

yeah i agree with "applying" part, but why can't they take the little time it takes to even listen to different kinds of music and learn about it. I'm not a die hard Metallica or Guns N Roses fan, but I know of their music and they did actually "write" songs....

this shit is really blowing me how some of you think that they should just sing and be ignorant of what they are singing about or who wrote it or produced it. They should take it more seriously is all i'm saying.

i'm not saying they shouldnt take the time to. imo that would be great, however as far as it helping their careers it means nothing if they cant apply it, i dunno this all isnt that serious to me. if they do they do if they dont they dont. i'm not much of a radio person n e way so what do i care? i'm not saying they should be ignorant, hell we dont even know if they ARE ignorant to music. all this ignorant, no knowledge etc... is just a buncha generilizations based on one or two comments. c'mon people, we aint in their heads
Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...
...And i'm gonna be groovy in it!

It's nothing to do with the generations. I'm only 24 and knew all these people by the age of 10 or under.
