appreciation thread-the genius of TRICKY.

After mr.nelson this is my main man.

his first two albums could still stand as two of the finest pieces of work of the 90's

Never one to repeat or rest on his laurels each of his subsequant albums always looks forwards never b

hmmm sounds like somebody else we know wink

plus his family is hard as fuckin nails lol

I Like Tricky. But most of my love for him lies in the first 2 albums. Tehn he got super arty and lost his "art". Then he tried to be different and lost his "sound". Of course IMHO. I sorta stopped listening around juxtapose.

Although now talking about him is making me want to get out his albums and listen.

i agree. especially his first two albums and the Nearly God project.

still one of my fav albums that one. just yesterday i was driving in
my car and Poems came up on my various artists mp3 compilation.

i listened to it on repeat for the complete 45 minute drive and once
again i was mesmerized by it. one of my fav songs ever by any artist

actually, i thought about making an appreciation thread for it right
here, lol. but you beat me to it with a complete Tricky appreciation.

woot!

the percussion/drums on Poems is so incredibly hypnotic and it sounds
so crisp and yet earthly, like very heavy , hollow, wooden blocks.

and the vocals of Tricky, complemented by Martina love what a good
combination.

Maxinquaye/Millennium Tension/Nearly God -this trilogy rivals Prince
in sheer artistic amazement!
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Poems seems to be the working ground for Broken Homes with PJ Harvey. I love Poems too. best song on Nearly God.

I stand firm for a soil
I lick a rock off foil
So reduce me, seduce me
Dress me up in Stüssy
Hell is round the corner where I shelter
Isms and schisms, we're living on a skelter
If you believe I'll deceive common sense says you are thief
Let me take you down the corridors of my life

Tricky definitely gets love from me.His soundscapes with the gravelly delivery is just what the doctor ordered often. Then, sometimes he perfectly counters that with the sweet Martina or the sweet bjork. This man's work is loved, but also underacknowledged. He has so many songs I like."Poems","Pumpkin","Broken Homes""Tricky Kid"....so many taht are cool.I still trip that he was on Sisters that time.He looked a little uncomfortable, but they played his image perfectly. The devil amongst us.

Too sick and tired to properly post, but I might come back to this. Nice to see him getting some props on here lately.

I totally agree. I ither love or hate his music. Pre Millennium Tension falls in the latter category for me. Some of it just sounds lik noise imo. However, I love Angels with Dirty Faces and Maxinquaye ofcourse.

Has anyone heard Finley Quaye (who claims to be Tricky's uncle)? I dig a lot of his stuff too.
