Devote A Thread: Madonna!!!

She's been "Like A Virgin", a "Material Girl", and now a James Bond lady. U really gotta "love her or hate her"...u apparently can't do both.

Much has been said about her, written about her...bitched about her...but never on a thread dedicated 2 her.

So let's have it orgers! Love her, or hate her...but do it now, and do it here.

"Get Into The Groove"...

I hope she falls into a manhole and drags her little brat Lourdes along with her.

But, keep Guy Ritchie. He's hot.

I love the lady.

With the possible exception of "bedtime stories" I believe she has always been a trend-setter for the mainstream, plucking the finest out of hip undercultures and repackaging it for the masses. Most recently, with Ray of Light and to a lesser extent Music, she accomplished bridging the techno gap without losing the quality in the music. I feel she has refused to stagnate and allows herself to grow with the times and experience new things.

She is probably the only icon from the 80s who is still relevant in pop music. (well, and Janet...) Her videos don't look out of place on MTV and her songs fit right into top 40 radio. Not that these forums determine what I like, but it's nice to occasionally like music that others have heard of! smile

I believe she did a lot for the gay community, long before it was cool to do so. Her hot dancerboys in Truth or Dare would seem rather opportunistic in today's world of 'Will and Grace' and 'Queer As Folk'. She also tried and continues to try to push the boundaries for what is okay for a woman to do.

Her only downfall, acting. I believe she is good in movies that she doesn't carry. I enjoyed Dick Tracy and A League of Their Own. Give her the lead, and watch out, though! If you haven't, DON'T see The Next Best Thing or Shanghai Surprise. The one exception to this is Evita, but that was a musical.

Do I think she's a great musician? Naw. Do I think she's one of the best entertainers of our times? Without a doubt.

I'll get killed for saying this on the Org...I saw the Music world tour and for pure theatrics (not musical quality) I finally saw a stadium show that rivaled the LoveSexy-In The Round experience.

Love her!

Here's a little info on Madonna's upcoming CD...

***Dr.Dre has produced a few tracks, including a hot dance track called "Believe Her".

***Other producers include Mirwais,Paul Oakenfold and an unknown French duo called Air.Contrary to earlier reports,William Orbit will NOT be assisting on this album.

***Partial tracklist (these are songs that are RUMORED to appear on the album): "Rock Vanity","Unless It's You","Die Another Day (Can You See My Mind)" and the aforementioned "Believe Her".There is another collaboration with Dre but I don't have the title just yet.

***First single---The song "Die Another Day(Can You See My Mind)" is the theme song from the new James Bond film. The song and the video will be released in October. There are already remixes being made.

***Movies---Madonna's movie "Swept Away" will hit theatres in the U.S. on October 18th.She also makes a cameo appearance in the film "Die Another Day",due on November 27.With all these things going on,I predict that the new CD won't be released until early 2003 (first quarter).

.. thanks for info, except that AIR is definitely UNKNOWN duo. Their (2nd?) album Safari Moon about 5years ago was already a huge success all over Europe (i suppose they've gained lot of attention in States also).
Then they made a really good soundtrack on Sofia Coppolas Virgin Suicides -movie.
Last Year they made album 1000 Hertz, which is the best trip-hop-ambient-chillout-dance-whatever music ever! Really cool album. Featuring also BECK singing on one track. I recommend to everyone. Really soulful dancechilloutmusic...

so, its good. believe me.

Davideye, you definitely have to get their album MOON SAFARY and you will be astonished by the beauty of it, really.
It is one of the best albums of the 90s according to a great number of music critics and I sincerely agree with that opinion. It´s techno music , very classy and atmospheric. Check it out!!

Y'all beat me to the punch...

AIR is awesome...check 'em out!

The soundtrack to the Virgin Suicides was my soundtrack to sleeping and studying (often the same thing, lol) for a year.

Thanks for the update, DavidEye, I'm definately excited now!

Darin, one of the producers was quoted as saying "this album is like nothing you ever expected from Madonna".I'm thinking she's gonna move into a new direction, but she won't abandon her core dance music audience (hence the Dr.Dre collaboration). What do you think?

MOON SAFARI is good, but IMO the latest one 1000 Hertz is much better. It is one of the greatest dance music albums ive heard.
I wouldnt use word TECHNO, bcause its quite slow and peaceful music. They also use lot of "real" instruments and sounds. A lot of singing too.

try it!

Well, with the exception of Dr. Dre, the producers are quite "techno" heavy. Mirwais did "paradise..." on her last cd (and some others) his solo cd has snippets that mirror 'music' all over it (another cd worth checking out, if you haven't). I'm excited for anything that man touches. Air producing tracks sounds reallly cool. They do some out-there experimental stuff, so those tracks should be awesome. Also, Oakenfold...could we have some hard trance Madonnamusic in store for us? Then again, Oakenfold produces/remixes for everyone so that doesn't give too much of a clue of what sound his tracks will have.

I'm VERY excited for this! I loved 'music', although it was a titch 'light and fluffy' for me. Then again, that was kinda the point of most of it. So, I'm ready for whatever she serves us next!

Thanks again for all the info!

What's odd is that, when recording for this CD began in January, there were rumors that Madonna would be making a "rock" album.I'm sure it will still rock hard in certain places (and she will be playing guitar on most tracks),but based on these recent reports,it looks like she isn't totally turning her back on techno/dance music. That's a good thing. The album promises to be very eclectic and diverse. That's what I liked about her 'Music' CD,the songs were very unique and not easy to categorize.

ahhh...Madonna!!! I think she's great. Always pushing the envelope...and with good reason. She was never just eye candy like Brittney...there has always been a purpose to what she's done. Also, she's Italian and from Detroit...what could be better wink

I hope to god she puts that guitar down. Did you see her trying to play it on the Drowned World tour? She looked like she had 15 minutes of lessons before the show. In fact I dont think she even was trying to play any specific notes, she just kept hitting the strings. lolol.

Her new album sounds very interesting tho. I love her!

I love when she played acoustic guitar during "La Isla Bonita",one of the highlights of that tour.If you watch the "Drowned World" concert DVD,look for Moonbeam in the front row. He's jumping up and down during "Beautiful Stranger" and you can also see him during "Candy Perfume Girl".

I grew up with Madonna in the eighties...I remember when they played Physical Attraction on the funk station and I bought the album and saw her on the cover! wtf? who is this--she went pop and thats cool..she did her thang...she copped styles but shes always been down from the git go regardless...a friend who I never thought was the type said one time when I scanned radio channels in a van going to a club or coming home with a bunch of us "put back that Madonna song back on!"(Express Yourself)...your supposed to shout the "hey hey hey heyyy!!" part with the song ya know wink . Rememeber at the first MTV video awards she sang Lie A Virgin and her eyes were red as hell ( you know she smoked a joint ..look again when they show re-runs). Remember on MTV before the Express Yourself video premiered it showed a clip of her walking on all fours slow motion to that bowl of milk and it said "Madonna...is coming"? Yow!!! And remember on Live Aid she told the crowd "Its hot but I aint takin shit off today?" referring to her nude pic "scandal"? Remember she got on Nightline to discuss her banned Justify My Love video with Ted Koppel I believe? And when he said "it looks like the vid will end up being very lucrative money wise for you after all this controversy" and Madonna responded " yeah, lucky me.." LOL. Her something To Remember cd is jammin point blank...her cover of Marvyn Gayes' "I Want You" is jammin'!!!...thats my shit right there. Her and Massive Attack! Madonna I may be critical of you but its meant as just a debate on opinions ..like we do with all the people we love..doesnt mean I hate you...come 'mere girl...lemme love ya..."kisss"...thanks for the music, the scandal, the spectacles, the rumors, and the elevation.Love her, hate her, but you cant ignore her.

I think Madonna is the only one from the 80's that can still top the charts on a whim. She's never on a "come-back" because she's never gone away. She continuously remakes herself over and again and never ceases 2 amaze.

Evita was incredible, she won the Golden Globe 4 her efforts, but was denied an Oscar nomination, still she showed up and sang the song that won Andrew Lloyd Webber an Oscar. As Billy Crystal pointed out, that was classy. Her portrayal of Eva Peron was incredible, and I agree with her, she was born 2 play this role.

Her other movies sucked. sad I did like Desperately Seeking Susan though.

So she's making another movie...hmmm. "Swept Away" is it? I don't know what 2 say...well, perhaps with Guy Ritchie at the helm, it can't b all that bad.
