Anyone ever pop in an old hip hop CD from the 80's? Well, I have re-introduced myself to De La's - 3 feet high & rising. That album was so ahead of it's time and it was well received by the public - for good reason.

Songs like - Jennifer Taught Me, Treadwater, Magic Number, Eye Know, and Potholes in My Lawn, were such a fresh sound and still sound unique to me today. Its like their timing was just right - like when Kayne West came out. Their music and use of sampling was so clever - using groups like the Turtles - who later sued them, LOL.

That album is just so refreshing compared to what is out right now. If anyone on the org owns this CD, take a listen, it still sounds so fresh to me. De La didn't have the best delivery in the world but their style was so different and clever and the music was like some alternative rap stuff. They also had messsges in their songs - U just had 2 pay attention.

We will never experience something like that agin?...well, u never know, everything in hip hop is so clithe now. Even the underground rappers who r posiitve dont really have aunique sound or style that seperates them from the pack.

One of the most seminal Hip Hop albums ever. Change the landscape of Hip Hop from "Bravado-smack talk" to "Consciousness & Peace." Also introduced us all to "skits" that are now so prevalent on Hip Hop albums now. And it was the 1st time you heard labelmates on the same album (Jungle Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest, Newkirk) for the sole purpose of cross-promoting their acts on one album. Genius. Prince Paul was the shit with his production work.

The argument can be made that De La Soul is the greatest hip-hop group of all-time. Because they've made a string of "out of the box" albums for nearly 20 years. From 3 Feet High to The Grind Date, De La has been holding it down.

Their criminally overlooked masterpiece?
