Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley

He sings this song like it was written specifically for him... so beautiful!

It's a heartbreaking song, and it always makes me sad. Both because his angelic singing makes the song resonate deeper than it could with any other singer, and because this guy probably would've ended up being a musical legend had he not died.

Leonard Cohen is such a poet, but I have trouble listening to songs he performs. It's only when his lyrics are given to other artists like Buckley that I realize just how underrated the man is.

Oh, and Jeff Buckley is great too smile

I first heard Buckley's version of this song on an episode of "The West Wing", very moving scene and a great choice of song for it.

I bought the CD the very next day.
if I'm stuck in some groovy wet dream, don't pinch me, I'm diggin' the scene.

I find this version (and all of Buckley's work) far too vocally hysterical for my tastes...but that's my deficiency. I'm certainly not out to ruin anyone's enjoyment of this song. I just have problems with any singer who tends to go a bit over-the-top.

I much prefer the versions by john cale and kd lang, both of which are a little more understated.
