Sorry, I got to agree with Peabo. Mr. Legend is riding off a lot of hype. Only time will tell if he is going to be around in 10 years.

well John Legend is one of the best out here who is worth listening to. What in the hell are some of you looking for in a singer to be hatin' on him so hard?

We're looking for something vaguely interesting. If the natural order was restored and Legend was back in a supper club where he belongs, no one would have a problem with him. It's just when bland figures are given praise out of all proportion, that people with taste get a bit peeved. By the way, don't compare him to Lionel Ritchie. LR may have been soft but he wrote brilliant songs. I'd love it if there was a Lional Ritchie around today.

But why dis John when there's Chris Brown and Omarion available? Just doesn't make sense. Dis Avant. Dis Ne-Yo. Don't dis a cat that can piano his ass off and has a soulful voice.

Peabo needs to dis his barber that allowed him to wear that ridiculous ass hightop as his hairline kept evacuating for his neck.

I hate when people feel that they have to diss others to feel good. If you're that damn good, let others recognize it on their own! We don't need your damn help! I just saw him on a late night informercial selling 70s mood music. Gimmie a fuckin' break. lol

John Legend is never going to be able to sell 70's mood music like Peabo.

While it isn't that crucial. He is right. John Legend is as boring as watching paint dry. And he can't compare to Peabo or the other older singers Peabo named.

That being said Peabo has always been an egomaniac.

he may think that but still that makes him look like an ass AND says more about himself and his security than it does about john and his talent (or lack there of)

Perhaps you missed my last sentence: "That being said Peabo has always been an egomanic." Thus, one must expect that he also might be an ass.

I think one of the reasons John Legend shines so brightly is that his contemporaries aren't getting the production value that he is. I think John is a great vocalist but I don't believe that if he'd come out in the 80s that he would shine like he does now. He's the modern day Lionel Ritchie to me. If vocalists like Reuben Studdard, Jaheim, Bilal and Rhasaad Patterson were getting the "classic" treatment, they would probably outshine John by a longshot. Still, he's got something special and Peabo has had his time in the limelight. Let the young brotha do his thing.
Thank You BlaqueKnight!! You took the words right out of my mouth. If anything, Peabo Bryson ought to be encouraging young cats like John Legend to make the best music they possibly can, Not garbage you hear on the radio like "I'm In Love With A Stripper".

A few of my AHH buddies went to see Peabo Bryson and The Whispers live at the Newark Symphony Hall in New Jersey over the festive Mother’s Day weekend. Well, Mr. Bryson, who is a legend without question, let John Legend (and these other young whipper snappers) have it. “John legend is never going to be doing what I can do,” Peabo said of the G.O.O.D. Music artist. He then said that there were only about a half-dozen current performers that could even sing a lick. At the same time, he propped up old schoolers like Jeff Osborn, James Ingram, Luther Vandross, Al Jarreau and others. He said something like he's not ego driven, but God has an ego and blessed him. He then sang his a** off for the crowd, garnering a standing ovation. But, why diss John Legend…why not somebody that really has no talent? They're just ordinary people, Peabo, take it slow on them!

man its not even that serious

Well, speaking as a musician, and a person with some degree of musical taste, young people like John Legend don't make me peeved at all. There are far worse r&b acts out there to be irritated by. I'm actually pleased to see him doing so well, as most of his contemporaries can barely sing, let alone read, compose, and perform music . I apprciate that the young man is doing the best he can, sitting right there at that piano wink

But now that you mention it, Lionel Ritchie was a fantastic songwriter as well. He's still around though, but I think he only releases stuff in Europe now. I know he does a lot of guest judging for talent shows and song contests here similar to maybe American Idol (?)...

Co-Sign. LR was soft but, as a songwriter he was top notch in his day. In addtion, just because some of don't think JL is the greatest thing since sliced bread does not mean we are hating. JL is just not everybody thing.

I was not a huge peabo bryson fan but he is certainly right to
an extent about john legend. Yes john legend is different from
most of the cookie cutter artist out here but legend is very
overrated as a singer. He can play his @ss off on piano but nothing
special as a singer.
