Tears for Fears - Songs from the Big Chair

This has to be one of the greatest albums from the 80s... Really funky at times... I love "Broken". headbang Just too short though!

A great album now available in a two CD expanded version featuring not one but THREE versions of Broken - the standard album version, Broken revisited (5.15) and the 12" remix (8.00).
There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

thumbs up! Thanks for the info. I got the album from itunes. It's got Broken revisited but not the 12". sad

I'm really in awe by all the sounds and textures on the album. Especially on Working Hour... what an amazingly crafted song!

It's a wonderful album, end to end, I think. Apparently Roland didn't want to include Everbody Wants to Rule the World on it because he thought it was "too poppy and sunny" compared to the rest of the album.

The broken 12" is essentially a remix along with Head over Heels (the preacher mix). There is very little difference to the standard album version/Segue. Its the "re-visited" version which it the gem.

Its actually not re-visted at all, but the original version from the b-side 1983 re-release of Pale Shelter, called "We Are Broken". They simply added a reverse intro and called it "broken re-visited".

The double disc is worth it alone for the fabulous "Sea Song" and "Pharaohs" as well as the brilliant urban mix of "Everybody wants to rule the world". biggrin

Where do yoiu stand on Seeds of Love? Great album or overindulgent, overproduced crisis of confidence?

I think the first three tracks are up there with the best, but then I find it somewhat lacking.

They were having a crisis about electronic Vs real instruments. I think this album suffered because of the obsession with real instruments.

It didn't help that Roland had discovered the Beatles at this point and started changing the whole sound.

As a result, I rarely play it. I usually just play Woman in chains and the title track when they appear on a greatest hits.

My favourite album is "The Hurting", then "Big chair" not far behind. I also loved last years "Everybody loves a happy ending" album, even though the whole Beatles thing is still there a bit.

I know some people think Sowing the seeds is their best ablum, but it doesn't do it for me!

Ah, the dreaded Beatles influence - although at least TFF didn't turn into Oasis. I must listen to Happy Ending again. I didn't care for it all that much when I first heard it.

Indeed it is. And you'll find the original - and superior - version of Mad World on The Hurting. Which you need to buy because it's great.

Actually, I do have their greatest hits. I like the slower "Mad World" much better, though. The original sounds over-produced. boxed

Do you? If you think that's overproduced, try listening to the Seeds of Love album. It sounds in places like bad ELO (and I'm someone who doesn't think there's such a thing as good ELO).
