American Idol's Elliot Yamin: Better Than Almost Anyone?

By that I mean what passes for male vocalizing these days; Justin Timberlake, Usher, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, James Blunt and the like.

I avoided the madness known as American Idol for most of the season but for some reason was compelled to glance at it for a few minutes these past few weeks, at least long enough to know that once again they've blown any chance of having a strong final battle.

Season 1 shoulda been Kelly Clarkson and Tamyra Grey. Grey came in fourth.

Season 2 shoulda been Trenyce and Kimberly Locke. Trenyce came in a shocking 5th. Locke came in third.

Season three I gave up on early, but not before knowing Jennifer Hudson and Fantashia shoulda been the 1-2.

Season 4 I have no idea. I bet it was a disaster all around.

Now this year the soulful Paris Bennett, the sex symbol rocker Chris, and last but certainly not least probably the best singer I've ever heard on this show, Elliot Yamin, are all out of the competition. What gives?

There can only be one winner so I suppose there's no need for whining, but this boy needs to be a star. He's probably the most soulful singer the show has ever had. He sings better then any male singer who's been popular over the past 5 years. Someone give him a contract and some strong material. And he's not bad to look at either. He IS an American Idol!

If he's talented (and I have no idea since I don't watch this bullshit), it is probably better that he doesn't win, because every winner except for Kelly Clarkson will sing boring music for little while, have a few hits, then fade into obscurity. This is the cycle the show was made for: Make them for nothing, promote them for a year, then dump them in the gutter.

That's true this could work to his or any previous loser's advantage. As for your other comment you obviously haven't heard Fantashia's song "Free Yourself", a surprisingly strong song produced by Missy Elliot.

Well considering that girl left in the competition is very green, yeah you're right the silver-haired blues brother will win.

And he's not bad to look at either. He IS an American Idol![/quote]

EWWWWW Yuck! Down here we call him "Elfie", he seems pretty cool with a nice personality but he just doesn't have the whole complete package. Plus, he needs a tooth job, bad, real bad! Chris was waaaaay better and hotter all around a better choice for AI than Elfie. I hope he sees a Dentist (brings back horrible images of William Hung).

I agree he needs to get the grill worked on, but the boy can sing! I'm sure he has been approached with wonderful opportunities, so maybe we will hear from him in the future at some point.

I have only seen Tuesdays...and I have to say Taylor is the best of the 3. He has a lot of energy...puts 150% into his performance and is very entertaining. Part of me feels like he was meant to do this.

I suppose if it was a "looks" contest. Taylor would have been gone a long time ago and Ruben would have never won. Thankfully folks are voting based on "talent"

I picked Elliot & McFee once they got down to the top 10 or so. He's really better than Taylor. I do like Taylor, but he's more like a seasoned Vegas performer than a young Idol. Bo's attitude was that it was better not to win, but Clay Aiken aside, it's definitely not better to come in second on this show!

But I'll say it again. I'm a bit embarassed to know this. I haven't yet seen a performer whose album I'd buy.

Actually Season 4 was pretty on point as far as Carrie and Bo duking it out...Carrie's album SOME HEARTS is the biggest selling DEBUT album by an 'Idol' Winner...this week she just misses the 3 million mark and her album was Top Country Album for weeks on Billboard. Kelly's first album stalled at about 1.5million but has sold another 900,000 after BREAKAWAY became such a mega-hit.

As for Ruben and Fantasia...they both sold around 1.5 and 1.8 million each.

And Clay sold 2.6 million as well.....

I dont have a clear favorite for this year...but I do love Kat when she's 'on'...and Taylor bugs me sometimes!

peace

With all the hype surrounding the season finale of American Idol and the surprise Prince performance (He did meet the "kids") I just thought I'd hype my main man Elliot Yamin, who held up as much as anyone could against Mary J Blige, and totally crushed "A House Is Not A Home"! Entertainment Weekly predicts he'll be huge. So do I.

I find him incredibly endearing. He's cute, sweet, and has an incredible voice. To paraphrase Paula Abdrool, "He moooooves me!"

LaToya London should've won Season 3. That's when I finally gave up on the show. "America" and I just don't see eye-to-eye. Tamyra Gray is still the greatest talent in the show's history. As icing on an already delicious cake, she's a huge Prince fan.

One of the best vocals I've heard on AI.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.
