David was always really really really creepy.

At one point in time, he was just as frighteningly thin as Karen. Their parents were controls freaks of the worst kind, and you can see how it manifested itself in Richard and Karen. Richard was a masterful arranger, but yes...creepy as all hell!

I'm going on memory. Something about how music had gotten so crap that you were going back and checking out older things but you weren't quite ready for John Denver yet. Something like that. Yes? No?

Yep, that was me. If music gets any worse, I'm liable to go searching for some damn Beethoven or Bach. lol

Classical isn't funky at all. But I will listen to Beethoven for shock value. Beside, Mozart is overrated. wink

As in too controlling and egomaniacal.

And I mean Richard, dammit. Who the fuck is DAVID? lol

Actually, there is a funky Modern Talking song. It's called "Juliet" and on one of their albums from the 00's... boxed

But, if you really want some unfunky stuff, Germany definitely is the place to go! biggrin You just haven't listed the correct guys yet. Just try this one, for example (hell, he even looks devoid of funk):

Plus, we managed to get the only black person on this planet to Germany who hasn't got a trace of funk in his body (but a 30-year recording career):

(He may look a little bit like James B. in this pic, but believe me, he's as funky as damn Al Martino!)

I remember the made-for-TV movie about the life of Karen Carpenter. There are at least 2 shocking things worth mentioning:

1. When Richard was at a drug rehab center for his addiction to pills, Karen kiss her brother good-bye dead on the lips.

2. Richard wasn't always happy about Karen getting marry so easily.

Hey Vainandy, you definitely should get Simon Rattle's recording of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Listen to it on full volume! It will blow you (and your neighbors)away!!! biggrin

Phil Collins. And nobody better tell me that he is, or was, in any way, shape, or form funky.

Just...no.

lol I knew that would be mentioned. There was a whole thread about it a while back and how it was based on 1999 and all that. I was probably the only one who said I didn't like it, and I still don't. lol And I stand by that. hmph!

I just don't feel the funk in that at ALL. Probably because, oh, well because it's PHIL COLLINS!

courtney did a "24 hours of love" special on MTV2 a few years back, where she took over the station and did whatever she wanted for, yes, 24 hours. a whole day of ranting, unfortunate shots of ravaged body parts, surprisingly AMAZING choices in videos (say what you want about her, but she knows her rock music history), and a wacky line-up of special guests...including eve, who dropped in on hour 24 of the show to try to teach a fabulously sleep-deprived courtney love how to rap. courtney was more interested in blathering on about her relationship by that point, which made for some bizarre television entertainment. lol

Oh I'm still mad I couldn't see ALL of that. I love her rambling, and I think you could cover a bit of ground within 24 hours.

LOADS of 'em. lots of punk, new wave, obscuro stuff from the early '80s...she went on a rant about how all these videos are corroding away in MTV's vaults and nobody is taking any trouble to preserve them, and that was one of the reasons she wanted to do the 24 hour show. she was also trying to teach kids about music, though it was in her own bizarro, muddled way. she sent a group of kids out to a tower records with 20 bucks each to pick out a CD, and she had them explain why they bought what they did. that was pretty cool, actually. when she wants, she can be kind of brilliant. unfortunately, she doesn't want all that often...
