you got it wrong, this guy told me to post lyrics, i said listen to the song so you can understand the beat and the lyrics if u jusge rap just by the lyrics you read and not about how the beat goes to the lyrics, then you are just reading, and not feeling the song, some people don't have to be so overpower lyrically to be a great lyricist.

Kool Moe Dee said one of the best lyrical lines ever and it was so simple:

I NEVER HAD TO RUN FROM THE KU KLUX KLAN/ AND I SURE I NEVER HAVE TO RUN FROM A BLACK MEN/

this line is so simple but so nice and lyrical and the way he delivered it was crazy.

Here's one of my favorites from last year... Now if you are in tune with South Asian television, this video was shown all the time. It was like the "In Da Club" of India last year. Big song. Anyhoo, here's the video for it...

Bombay Rockers :: Ari Ari (Remix feat. Overseas) (2005)
http://www.youtube.com/wa...HkjZ1Ae9ck

I know Bombay Rockers. Me and my band (Swami) headlined at the MTV Style Awards in Mumbai last October, they performed there as well. Had a few drinks with them back at the hotel as well, friendly guys.

That's really cool. I've been blasting Bombay Rockers debut album for almost a year now. Hot fusion of sounds. Looking forward to their follow-up later this year.

No, I listen to lyrical content. Reading them also helps.

What did I say? Fitty rode the track lovely. But the lyrics are average. The beat made the song.

"wordsmith underground rappers who make nonsense" . . . wow. I guess you're not a fan of complex, substantive lyricism in your hip-hop, which tells me all I need to know about your level of "knowledge."

I'd much rather be an aficionado of the true underground hip-hop that a rider of hit-pop MCs.

And if you're so confident Fitty can hold his own on the mic, link a song, post some lyrics, do SOMETHING. I've given you a chance to make your case. I said reasonable minds could disagree, but you couldn't accept that. And you've done everything but respond to the challenge.

are Made You Look and HOVA commercial songs, nope if you want to compare Made You Look to Many Men that is a valid reason but compare Nastradamus or Braveheart Party to In Da Club, or compare Change CLothes or One of Jay-z many lame singles he has released in his time.

They're singles, aren't they?

"Many Men" is weak compared to "Made You Look." "In Da Club" is hotter than "Change Clothes," but that's because of Dre. Fitty is an average MC. "Wanksta" is better lyrically than "In Da Club."

Fitty ain't even in Jay-Z's league. Your even suggesting as such speaks volumes about your hip-hop IQ.

50 and Tupac arent the same are even remotely alike, people always suck Tupac off like he was great on the mic, he was average also, Tupac was a wanna be Ice mixed with Chuck D, and just another person who rarely listens to rap and calls everybody a fake tupac

Fitty name-drops 'Pac in the cut, son. His whole schtick has been going for the same ambivalent superhero street poet who is the target of assassins, and celebrates the life while mourning it.

I'm no real fan of 'Pac either. After 2PACOLYPSE Now and Strictly for My N.I.G.G.A.Z. he let the "Thug Life" motif consume him. But he was better than Fitty will ever be.

You got one thing right. I don't buy or consume much hit-pop like you.

But realize something, youngster. I've forgotten more hip-hop than you'll ever know.

Didn't I say he flowed with the track?

I said the lyrics, when you take them away from the song, are average. But I listed it as one of my favorite tracks from the last 6 years.

But you can't accept that. Despite the fact the lyrics themselves are average, you would have us believe that Fitty had great lyrics because the track was so damn hot.

How can you be a great lyricist without great lyrics?

You can make hot tracks without great lyrics. You can have a nice delivery without having great lyrics.

But if you can't write good lyrics, how can you be a great lyricist?

And through all that name-calling and chest-thumping, you STILL haven't given me a song, a lyric, ANYTHING to try to change my mind. Even though I said I could be convinced.

Let me just offer my two cents on today's "rap"

It's shit.

I'm far too busy at work to get into the debate above me, but "I" did hear fifty back in the day, and he was shit. His lyrics were as shit then as they are today. Even Nas fell off after Illmatic. Shit, even Illmatic isn't as hot as the shit he was spitting on tapes as Nasty Nas.

But the shit that is out now is a travesty. It ridicules hip hop. The best tracks are underground, and that's the way I like it. Corporate started to get paid from rap and you see where it's taken us. I'm just dropping names off the top of my head, but if Young Jeezy, Lil Flip, Clipse, Yung Juc, T.I., Dem Franchise boys, blayzay blahzay blah are what people consider talented, well

OPEN YOUR FUCKING EYES

So, like I said, I'm not gonna get into the debate, but like Dansa said
"Listen to better music"

Word.

Getcha Roll On....
anything by The Roots....
...The 'Liks
...Dead Prez
...Dialated Peoples....

...and MOS DEF....kinda got away from songs, per se....I look for more complete efforts....but ya gotta admit that the vid for getcha roll on was the shit....

and I agree to an extent that crunk killed it for me...but in the whole context of hip-hop it has its rightful place as another expression....just like reggaeton...which is LATIN HIP-HOP....

...just a latin form of music my ass...we ain't new to this....when 50 pennies was still gettin his diaper changed, latinos was all in the mix....holla if ya hear me...

yay! Someone answered my question. lol wink

I remember hearing him a couple of years ago in my sister's car (she lives in S.F.) and asking who it was. I was pretty impressed because it sounded like the kind of hip hop that I'd been wanting to hear for a long time. nod

I guess he's pretty popular in the Bay Area and she sees him live when she can. She said he puts on a really fun show. nod I hope he's got a show the next time I visit her.

Actually KK18 Moe Dee's line goes:

I NEVER EVER RAN FROM THE KU KLUX KLAN/ AND I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO RUN FROM A BLACK MAN/ CAUSE THAT'S..... SELF DESTRUCTION..... YOUR HEADED FOR SELF DESTRUCTION

I feel Rap is all about the lyric's, the best rapper's can hold your attention with what they got to say. Kane, LL, KRS, Rakim, Chuck,Melle Mel,Certain Members of the WU-Tang, Nas, Hova,Slim Shady, Ras Kass, Scarface and other rappers of that caliber make a beat with the rhymes they spit while all a weak rapper has going for them on some songs is a beat. If I wanted to just hear a beat I'd turn on a JAMES BROWN or Parliment Funkadelic record, that's where alot of the beats originate from.
