I remember Tamara and the Seen. Didn't they put out that album that had Jesse Johnson-penned tunes on it? Songs like "Everybody Dance" (I think that was the name of it). RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Yeah. Jesse put the group together. And futhermore, what's he doing these days. He's not touring with The Time- right? The road you choose to walk in this life, is a road that leads to the next.....

Don't think Jesse is touring with The Time anymore, which is a shame. Not sure what he is doing these days. His solo albums were great! RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Tamara is Margie Cox and besides working with Prince a few years back, last I heard she was singing with Dr. Mambo's Combo.

Thanks, Everlasting! I didn't know that Margie Cox and Tamara were one in the same. I just bought the 1-800-NEWFUNK CD that has Margie singing "Standing at the Altar". I'm getting ready to listen to it now. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

The album is called Blueberry Gossip by Tamara and the Seen. I really would like to know if she is still singing. And yeah Where is Jesse? He worked with Sly Stone on Crazy but did other stuff also. I know WBAI Guys liked the TIME very much. One guy was so into them he was always wearing a Raincoat even in the Summer., don't know what happened to all of these people . Funny you could be so close and still so far.

I went to Monte Moir's web site. You can buy his solo cd released 2001. He looked really thin, I think he's still on tour with The Time, and still producing. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are still doing their thing. Jesse the only one who is MIA. The road you choose to walk in this life, is a road that leads to the next.....

Margie Cox was Held up on NPG Records She was Signed for the longest time&never got a full Album released.while Prince was trying to get out of Warners Margie was trying to break ties with Him.Jesse is doing studio work&Laying Low for various Reasons at this time.He is chilling in Cali last I Heard.and I doubt seriously He will Ever join up with the Time.Tamara&The Seen were cool for a minute in the 80's.two Albums Produced by Jesse Johnson.remember how in "Purple Rain" Apples Lied about Her Age? saying She was 19? well Margie Cox was once quoted as Saying Jesse wanted Her to shave Years off Her age&keep Her at 19.She was 24 at the time&Refused to do this. She can Sing but the Whole Association with the "Minneapolis Sound"I think has Hurt Her from getting truly noticed? She has a Cool Voice. mistermaxxx

Thanks Mistermaxxx for the info. You're right- her sound got muffled hanging out at NPG. I think she would have an audience now, especially with record companies more than willing to promote white artists who can cross over to R&B. Was it Red Tape that tied things up, or Prince getting distracted? The road you choose to walk in this life, is a road that leads to the next.....

Mistermaxx you know a lot can I ask you why all Paisley Park artists Seemed to be Tied up with their contracts and wasn't Jesse in trouble somehow with the Law? Or can't this be discussed?

Was it Red Tape that tied things up, or Prince getting distracted? thank you Very Much.Prince was finishing out His warner Brother's Era&He Signed or had all these Folks.Margie Cox was on Outtakes back in late 89-90.but I think Paisley Park Records&Prince didn't push her along far enough IMHO.and Prince is known for doing 99 things at once&finishing 19 of them.16 are directly on Him.it was like the Jill Jones thing: She waited 5 Years in between getting that Album Out.She got to Do Session Work with Prince but it took a while you know? also She was tied up with Paisley Park Records&had to wait it out.Prince just the Business had 7 Year Contracts on His Acts.back in 90 She could have Hung with Jane Child&Lisa Stansfield.nowadays She would be a GoldMine Artist but I don't know if She is Seeking that out??mistermaxxx

I Read&Follow things.also know a few folks in the Biz&whatnot.again Prince did what the Majors do Sign a Artist to a 7 Year Deal or Longer.Paisley was a Logo Label for Warners.they had the same Rules as WB did.Jesse had some Problems back in 90 with His Wife&things got out of hand.but everything worked itself out.Jesse also got flipped out of the Time&I think He didn't want to front on that anymore."Bare My Naked Soul" never has a Hint of the "Minneapolis Sound".Jesse is doing Session Work&Keeping a Low-Profile these days.mistermaxxx

I have the original Tamara and the Seen album from 1985 on vinyl. It was a great project, featuring 'Everybody Dance', 'Affecttion', and 'Thinking About You' (one of my favorites).
I purchased their 1988 release, Blueberry Gossip, on cassette, and it was a very disappointing followup. I could not find one track on the project worthy of a second listen. Perhaps I'll see if I can find that tape and give it a re-evaluation.

I do believe that Dr. Mambo's Combo plays at Bunkers in Mpls from time to time.
