Agreed. It is a magnificent record and definately my favourite from her back catalogue.

What did you think of Aerial?

Still spinning it pretty regularly and was quite surprised that she didn't come back as Phil Collins or Elton John. (Age can do that to a person, you know.) She's still as wonderfully out of step and idiosyncratic as she's always been. I thought her last two albums were good (especially The Sensual World) but were a little too safe compared to what had gone before.
With songs like Pi, Bertie, Mrs. Bartolozzi, Sunset & the title track, it's clear that with Aerial she's still not too concerned with doing anything other than satisfying her own wayward whims.

I think it's brilliant. Easily a starstarstarstar album in my opinion.

I think the second disc is really special. I love the whole conceipt, but then I am a fan of self-indulgent whims. Prologue, Sunset, Nocturne... these compositions are so elegant and really uplifting.

I was disappointed by the first disc though. Other than the instant classic that is King Of The Mountain and probably Joanni, it left me feeling cold.

Yeah, most folk much prefer the second disc. And it is a beautiful piece of work, no question. But I love the first disc, too. King Of The Mountain, Pi, How To Be Invisible and A Coral Room are up there with my very favourites of hers, particularly the last two mentioned. I actually think HTBI would make a great single.
Or maybe I'm just simply deranged. shrug

Way.

The line "put your hand over the side of the boat and what do you feel?" makes me feel exactly what she's singing about.

That's the sign of true artistry.
