D'ANGELO - WEIGHS A WHOPPING 450 LBS!

http://groups.yahoo.com/g...olksplace/

Acclaimed producer Rick Rubin will produce more than
R&B heavyweight D'angelo's (Michael Archer) next
album, he's also challenged the M.I.A. soulman to shed
a few extra pounds.

Rubin made the challenge to D'angelo while the singer
wheezed through vocal tracks for his untitled upcoming
album (J Records). Says Rubin, "I've been here before
with other artists...Tom Petty weighed 450 lbs. when
he wrote and recorded 'Freefallin', D'angelo is
weighing 450 lbs.
now, so I'm having him record a
version of 'Free Falling'".

Rubin also shares some insight on the personal nature
of the record,"This album will silence the
critics...definately!, D'angelo has been reading a lot
of negative comments about him, his personal life and
Voodoo on his own fansite (www.okayplayer.com), he
literally locked himself in the pantry with a bong,
some twizzlers, a tape recorder and some brillo pads
and came out 2 weeks later with the albums opening
track, 'Hell to tha NAW'", a scathing rebuttal to his
critics, nasty rumors, and slow drive-thru service at
the local Carl's Jr.

Rubin would not go into much detail about the project,
but shares that there is a track on the album which is
an open letter to funk legend 'Sly Stone', featuring
George Clinton, Young Jeezy, the Game and Redman.
"It's about becoming a ghetto superhero and cleaning
up your neighborhood", says Rubin.

"This album is a rebirth for D'angelo, as well as
D'angelo fans", says Rubin, "By the time his
fairweather fans finish listening to the album
they'll have eaten so much crow the Audubon Society
will have an A.P.B. for a handful of
miserable/longwinded Okay Players."

Also expect to see some fun hi-jinks when D' rooms
with Drew Carey and Jim Belushi on the upcoming season
of "VH-1's Celebrity Fit Camp"
(also starring Kirstie
Alley, George Wendt (Norm from Cheers),and real life
fat hollywood couple James Avery (Fresh Prince of
Bel-Air) and Reginald VelJohnson (Family Matters)

Damn 450, playa? That's a damn shame. Also, I didn't know James Avery was gay, I heard rumors for years that Reginald VelJohnson was, but never about James Avery. Can anyone confirm that?

But D' Celebrity Fit Camp should be some funny shit, IF it's true.

Dude...Rubin was joking..that much was gathered when he said Tom Petty weighed 415 pounds during the making of "Free Falling"....I heard that D is out of shape though, but he's just a personal trainer away from coming back out...Funny piece though....

interesting read, but is this really real? I thought Angie Stone was slated to be on the upcoming Celebrity Fat club. Interesting that this article had D being on the show instead.

Maybe the 450 lb thing is a metaphor(baggage, maybe?)

I don't know, some are saying the "450" is just a jokingly way of saying he's bigger than need be, but I wish someone had confirmation.

I don't think he is 450, hell naw. When he was doing videos for Voodoo around 2000-2001 and what not, he couldn't have been more then 185-200. No way he gained another D'Angelo and 1/2 in 6-7 years.

I remember when Big Pun died. He was supposed to perform a song with Fat Joe and Jennifer Lopez on SNL and pulled out at the last minute because he wasn't feeling well. He died a day or two later.

I heard more about Reginald being bi than James being gay period. I heard Reginald been 'out' since the 80s in the LA gay scene.

James Avery is married real life to Barbara Avery and been so since the 80s. So I dont think he is gay.
