Remember The Party?

Now what happened to this bunch?

They were all members of the new generation of the Mickey Mouse Club, too, but they didn't blow up like the new-new MMCers Britney, Christina, Justin and JC. They got a lot of play back in the day, though.

They all could've had really good solo careers if marketed right.

I used to dig the songs "That's Why" and "Private Affair."

I love the party LOL.

Damn, u got very versitile tastes LOL (i read the what u listening to thread).

I got a couple of their albums somewhere? And even their homevideo.

I love love love "suger is sweet" (remix). And "shoulda woulda coulda" "free" etc.... Dr Dre produced a few of their cuts. God knows why? "Private affair" was a cover of the jacksons song, and their version is far superior. Also, Donny Osmonds version is slightly preferred by myself too.

"Free" was about as funky as they got, but "shoulda woulda coulda" got those crisp as hell snares throughout. Love it. This sort of music is forever assosiated with me from my early childhood. I listen to very little music, and so this is mostly all i need now.

I did a thread on PC Quest, their "rivals"? I love them too. Anyone remember them? They had a retro styled hit with "after the summers gone"?

Cool! Someone responded! biggrin

Thanks. Yeah, I used to really take a shine to The Party back in 1990-'93. They released four albums during that time and I believe they charted with the Dokken cover song "In My Dreams."

Damn, I didn't know Dre was throwing production down on their stuff. What albums were "That's Why" and "Private Affair" on?

Never heard of PC Quest... were they an MMC act?

I need to get the party's last album. Havn't got round to it yet.

Yeah, "in my dreams" is a great cut. I never heard the original. More of a euro feel on that one. "thats why" and "private affair" are off their first album i think? As i said, thr jacksons version is alot better.

I think dre only did one track for them, and to be honest i cant remember it?

PC Quest were a group of kids who came out of Tobins camp (Tobin created tiffany). Tobin's group are better vocally, but the music is alot less consistant. Iam surprised at how consistant the party albums are

Still PC quest had 2 albums out.

http://www.allmusicvideoc...index.html

Not that many jams, but damn, "nothing but a fool" off their second is a song that is way too mature for a underaged girl to sing, cracking hiddem ballad though. Odd group,

God knows what happened to PC Quest? MMC had an album out too. More soulful on the ballads, and faux housey on the uptempo's. That album is slick as hell.

Gotcha. You make a great point about The Party being consistent. I think they were around during a time when "pure pop" or "teen pop" wasn't as rightly accepted as it was in the late '80s (with New Kids, Menudo, etc) and later with the Spice Girls invasion of 1996 (and later the whole TRL explosion). The mainstream was harder, darker and more downtempo at that time. I did see a few Party videos on MTV (either on the "Most Wanted" or "Top 20" countdown shows) "That's Why" was one of them. So they were pretty popular, enough. But, if they would've came up in the late '90s, we'd still be hearing from them today.

BTW, Deedee was in Sister Act 2 playing a small 1-line part. That must suck as an actor. Never seen her again.

I do remember by the end of their careers they tried to get all "hard" & "urban" like New Kids did when they switched to NKOTB. And MC Hammer. etc.

Man, I hated the '90s for that.

Don't get me started on The Party... lol

Chase Hampton joined forces with session guitarist Mike Vizcarra to form the group Buzzfly. They've put out 2 indie records and play all over L.A. Chase himself has done some acting appearing in an episode of "The X-Files" and the film "Rules of Attraction" (U won't remember him, but if U saw the movie I guarantee U remember his scene!)

Deedee Magno went on to star in the title role of "Miss Saigon" on Broadway and played the role for 3 years until it finally closed. She then played the role of Princess Jasmine is Disneyland's full scale stage musical adaptation of their film "Alaadin". In 2002, she married co-star Clifford Hall in Hawaii. The couple welcomed their 1st child, a boy, in 2005.

Damon Pampolina continued to act in commercials for Marie Callendars and Saturn and a brief role on MTV's "Undressed" before landing a co-hosting gig on a reality prank show on the Playboy Channel. The show itself (whose title escapes me) is no more, but is out on DVD.

Albert Fields recorded a solo album in 1995 called "Back To Reality" under the name Juene (taken from his middle name). The album failed to make a splash, but his track "I'm Da Man" did appear on the motion picture soundtrack for 'The Fan' in 1996. He is rumoured to be working on new material on his own lable.

Tiffini Hale is the saddest story from The Party. After a promising move to L.A. in 1995, Tiffini began a slow downward spiral into medical illness and drug addiction. She currently lives in Escondido California with her family and attends an outpatient wellness clinic for rehabilitation. She has been out of show business for years.

In their heyday, The Party released a total of 5 albums:

"The Party" (1990) which produced the singles "Summer Vacation", "I Found Love" and "That's Why". "In The Meantime, In Between Time" (1991) which yeilded their biggest hit, "In My Dreams" (a remake of Dokken's 1987 metal classic). The second single, "Private Affair", failed to catch fire, but had an amazing video. "Free" (1992) produced singles for "Free" and "All About Love". The group's final album was "The Party's Over...Thanks For Coming" dropped quietly in 1993 and was comprised of mostly outtakes from the "free" sessions. Ironically the group recieved the best reviews of their career for this album, but had already disbanded. In 1997, Hollywood Records released "The Party Greatest Hits". Oh well, those were the days.

So yeah...I've heard of them.

this is so weird.....I had a conversation about them at work yesterday.

They have a greatest hits cd.....and the songs have no lead vocals. Isn't that strange??

There was some pop group.. mighta been The Party...

the video was like.. a classroom... but it was just a set that was on a beach.

maybe the walls of the classroom fell down or something while they started dancing out on the beach.

but the hook was written on the blackboard:

tune in,
groove on,
BUST OUT!

The redheaded kid of the group reminded me of a cross between Rick Astley and Carrot Top.

KUDOS to npgmaverick! Wow, I feel so fulfilled knowing what happened to them all.

That's great Deedee went on to higher heights, guess she didn't falter afterall. Awesome to hear.

I wonder if Damon got naked on that Playboy reality series. Usually, the woman get all the nude scenes while the men just lap it up. mad

Whoa, sorry to hear what happened to Tiffini, sometimes the business and personal issues really take a toll on one's energy. I hope she gets better. pray

You know, I think I kinda-sorta remember what you're referring to. On the Disney Channel, I do remember The Party was still making scant appearances on MMC a few years prior to the series' end. There was a mini-pre-teen soap opera on there and I think The Party had a video on that show, but don't quote me on that, I'm so not sure.

Damn, u know ur stuff

I remember u putting "frontin'" in ur top 500 songs list last year. I was like, damn, someone knows the party?

New kids ripped off "frontin" and "free" for "dirty dawg" and "you got the flavour".
