Music that touches in a rainy day I suppose that absolutely everybody has a day when things seem not to be right or they are just taking a way you didn't expect.
Those days when you really feel that you're alone in the world and nobody can even understand a little bit the way you feel inside. And those days, there is always a kind of music that can speak to you and tell you that there is a kind of sympathy in this world. Maybe things don't get right, but at least you feel relieved. My music for today is jazz, Diana Krall, "Live in Paris". She's not maybe my favorite, but today, just to listen to her voice, the melancholy of the notes, the swing, the beat of the drumkick in my heart... makes me smile a little bit what is your music for these moments? maybe the music for today?

It's been raining here for two weeks. My music of choice ~ Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, Dead Can Dance and Bjork's Vespertine (it's so spiritual and soothing). Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife. --Kahlil Gibran

Do we all listen to Joni on days like this? I'm listening to her right now.
Yeah, the weather here has been beyond crap, and it's really affecting what I have left of my sanity. So yes... Joni Mitchell The Cure Jeff Buckley Pulp Morrissey and The Beatles to cheer me up. They usually do. Oh and Zeppelin's "Rain Song" of course. [Edited 5/23/06 12:02pm] "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

On a rainy day, something slow and Brazilian is always nice. I generally stick to Gal Costa, Elis Regia, or Sarah Vaughan's "Brazilian Romance" cd. Other Brazilian tinged favorites would include anything from jazz pianists/vocalists Shirley Horn, Diana Krall, and Elaine Elias.
If I'm in the mood for something more pop-folky, but still on the adult side, I usually mix up slow song compilations that include artists like James Taylor, Rickie Lee Jones, Joni Mitchell, Melissa Manchester, Minnie Ripperton (vintage) Kenny Loggins, Phoebe Snow....artists of that nature...

I usually go with instrumentals like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk...lyrics can really get to me sometimes, so I stay away from vocals on my bad days. Santana, Los Lonely Boys, disco divas, old pop music from the 60's and 70's.....that's what I use to cheer myself up. "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Maybe jazz music is the best for this times. But some classic music like the "Aranjuez Concert" can fit too.
Enya is another good one for a rainy day. If i had to choose a Prince' album, i think "One nite alone" would be great too. I agree about Coltrane, Miles Davis and his "Kind of blue" is very good too. Music really can speak loud about ourselves and let us have some rest and peace.

Sleep Research Facility - "Dead Weather Machine" is tough to beat on a rainy day. Altough if it's raining really hard it's hard to hear the record itself, because it's so sombre. For some reason though, Kylie's "Fever" is my second favourite rainy day record. It's just perfect for some reason (especially the song "Fragile"). I mean if you got the record yourself, just try it.
I loves me some rainy days. Wish there was less sunny days, music sounds so much better when it's not bright or warm. Maybe it has something to do with the style of the vast majority of the albums from my record collection on the other hand.
