MEXICO CITY (Reuters) -- Britney Spears ended her world tour on a controversial note by cutting short her final show in Mexico City on Sunday night, adding insult to injury after she made an obscene gesture upon arrival here last week.

The 20-year-old pop princess sang four songs in the last show of her Pepsi-sponsored world tour, but during the set's fifth song, "Stronger," Spears apologized, saying "I'm sorry Mexico. I love you. Bye," and left the stage, Mexico City daily Milenio reported.

Boos and jeers rained down on the stage when a public announcement asked fans to leave the Foro Sol stadium. Some concert-goers began throwing the pop diva's paraphernalia and chanting "fraud, fraud," the newspaper reported.

Concert organizers could not be reached for comment, and it was not immediately clear if another show would be scheduled or if fans would receive a refund. Mexico City was the last leg of a so-called world tour in the United States and Canada.

Spears, who rocketed to fame with her 1998 hit "Baby, one more time," spent less than a week in Mexico City, but attracted plenty of attention during her visit.

The pop star was caught by cameras extending her middle finger in a universally recognized insult after she arrived last Tuesday night at an airport in Toluca, some 40 miles (65 km) from Mexico City.

Spears later said the gesture was an angry response to paparazzi, who she said nearly caused a wreck with her vehicle.


...What a waste. At that point into the show, she's probably still got some clothes on. Jip!

It was also reported recently that she collapsed after one of her recent shows. Apparently she has only been taking on water and a few veggies.

But this isn't the first time that Britney has had negative press in a Spanish speaking country. I remember reading something about her being caught curing on a mic in Brazil. Supposedly she didn't realize the mic was on when she let out some curse words, shocking the little girls and their moms in the audience.

Britney has also gotten negative press over being caught in public smoking cigarettes. Her career is not over, because as someone said "America loves its blondes." 15 years from now, Britney will still be in front of a camera doing the same thing Pamela Anderson does -- getting paid for showing her fake titties.

Regardless of her talent - do you think the constant harassment by paparazzi is alright to any person? Yes, she's asked for it, she's a pop star, blah blah. Nonetheless, she's flipping off annoying assholes, the same way Christie Brinkley, Cher, Madonna, Tommy Lee, Sean Penn, (and the list goes WAAAY on) have handled it for years.

Upon reading the article, I thought, wow, what a ho, but after watching the tape, you can see that the camera is following/harassing the girl on the highway.

Britney is a wonderful artist with a lot of talent and charisma. She's incredibly kind to her fans, has a sense of humor, and I believe she's just handling this the way any other wonderfully talented artist would.

I actually feel really sorry for her, yeah some of it is her own fault but that's niavety more than anything else. She's only 20 i mean she's hardly Michael Jackson who ought to know better but hasn't a clue. I bet all Britney wants is to chill out on the couch with a good book and a glass of wine. It's the price of fame and all those who buy tabloid magazines and gossip mags are just as much to blame. Yeah her music is plastic and her image is just as empty but she's out there on her own, was bound to happen sooner or later.
