The Isley Brothers just released a new CD "Baby Makin' Music"

I don't think I'll be buying this one.I haven't bought an Isleys album in years.I don't wanna hear anything produced by R.Kelly.This new CD even features production by Jermaine Dupri! disbelief

I'll stick to their 70s funk albums.Back in the day, they were a dynamic funk band who did the occasional slow jam. These days, all they do is slow jams!

As much as I love the Isley's, they're sticking to a formula (like the Chili Peppers) that's keeping them in the eye of the youth. They're pretty much rehashing the same songs over and over again.

True. The Isley's are legends but they should go back to leading the pack.

If you look at their entire body of work they've influenced everyone from Jackie Wilson to the Beatles to today's artists.

Ronnie still sings his a** off and Ernie still plays his a** off.

The Isley's can cover other people's songs and sound better than the originals and in turn they've written great songs too.

I agree on the Peppers too. John is on the latest issue of "Guitar World."

The video to their new single is fun but on SNL the song reminded me of "Mary Jane's Last Dance" by Tom Petty.

Oh, hell no. However, I'm not surprised. They haven't done shit in years but sell out to today's bullshit. That's why I have all the respect in the world for the older artists that have retired and have disappeared from the face of the earth. I'd rather not hear anything from them than to see them fuck up their good names.

Exactly. And with radio mainly playing their old slow jams only, a lot of today's kids think the group was balladeers. Hell, they just don't know, The Isley Brothers had some of the hardest funk out there.

Precisely.Young kids need to hear stuff like "Take Me To The Next Phase","Living In The Life" and "Fight The Power".They need to see that the Isleys were all about REAL FUNK,and not just slowjams!

Yeah, In fact that whole Mr Bigg thing has been botherin' me from day one ...They're Legends-- who else has been in the business this long, since the 50's and is still around? Yet they have to stoop to this!

It pisses me off..why do Black artists have to go through this shit?

Could you imagine if Springsteen and Clapton had to put on a f**kin' cape and gangsta cane to sell records....it's so Sad....

None of these recent cds do Ernie's guitar playing any justice. These "producers" don't know what to do with real live instruments. They keep burying his guitar in the background - 'tis a shame...

More annoying, though, is Ronald Isley STILL embracing this Mr. Big crap...

The producers know exactly what they are doing. They know that "shitty" is the only thing that sells these days. Make the project as shitty as possible and maybe you'll make some money. If you throwdown, you can forget about making money. It's damn rediculous.

I'm so not buying this CD. That Mr Bigg shit is tired as fuck and it's tainting the memory of The Isley Brothers. I don't want to support that, not to mention the music they made with R Kelly is boring with the exception of a few songs.

This album was reviewed in Blender in the early winter, late fall. I wonder why they delayed it...It's not like there has been any promotion. I liked "Contagious", but the Mr. Bigg shit is getting old but their last album did debut at number one.

Contagious was one of the few songs of there's that was pretty good. In fact, I bought that last CD of theirs because of the song. It was boring. Not the worst but definetely not the best.

clapping agreed with everything you said. It's a shame that the Isleys have to sellout in order to remain popular.

R. Kelly. The trial is waaaaay overdue.

I believe Ron Isley was found guilty with that trial with the IRS. I don't know when sentencing day is but this CD came out in the nick of time. But with no promotion, it won't sell cause no one knows it came out so it won't help him with his financial issues. I know I didn't know about this CD until this thread came out.

Actually, this was a great album...

From begining to end...

This was about the best that R. Kelly produce.

Even tho' Snoop & Lil Kim were on it, they weren't all over the place...

Nice steppin' cuts on there... biggrin

I just found out tonight that Ron Isley's sentencing day has been moved to April 21st or 26th. He was found guilty on 5 counts of Tax Evasion and he could be sentenced to 26 years in prison. He's 64 years old. Very sad way to end the Isley's Legacy.

The Isley's went through the same problems before with the IRS. At one point they were managed by the same team that managed KISS.

They got The Isleys a deal where they could cut back on living expenses. They wanted Rudolph to sell his home which had a lien. He could have gotten a smaller home and not have to pay on it. Instead the Isleys showed up at meetings wearing fur coat's and an assortment of 70's bling.

The management team got the Isley's off the hook but when they were able to make income they wouldn't put a portion away to pay Uncle Sam. A lot of the T-Neck masters are owned by the IRS.

God Bless Ronnie because the IRS is nooooo joke.
