Anyone here a fan of Harry Connick, Jr.? I love Harry C. He's currently in a revival of The Pajama Game on Broadway. Yeah, he has been doing a lot of acting lately, but as a musician and vocalist, are any of you fans of his?
I saw a bio about him once at I think he started-out as the child protege on the piano? He seems to be really talented as a musician, vocalist and now an actor. I think he's cute, too.

I love his first christmas album, "It must`ve been ol` santa claus" is brilliant.
I also like the "Only you" album, his version of "For once in my life" is one of the best.

I go in and out of "LUV-ING" him, but I've been a pretty consistent fan of his since he first got famous when I was in high school. ....the funny thing is, I actually worked with his now wife when she was a young model (she was a Vicki Secrets gal)...nice girl...she eventually became a photographer before they married, but I don't know if she's still active in the business since she pushed out those 56 kids of his ... I do know that being born and bred from a legal family in New Orleans, he grew up playing with and is close to the Marsalis kids, studying occasionally with Papa Marsalis, and in his own words "having dressing contests with Wynton to see who was the cleanest one" by the time they hit their 20's. There also has been some mention that he spent time around piano legend Eubie Blake as small child, which affected him profoundly as a jazz pianist in his later years.... ...so yeah, I've been into him for a while...I actually prefer when he gets all greasy and funky New Orleans style, musically speaking...that's his "Mr. Hyde" side and is good fun to watch, his vocal phrasings and inflection gets so southern and soulful...I get drawn to that more than the big band and swing stuff he does. Oh! I forgot: he, Wynton, and Branford Marsalis have invested their own money to begin a foundation that's building a neighborhood in their hurricane devastated home of New Orleans. It's a musician's village for all the singers and players that lost their homes to Katrina...that's enough to make him cool whether I've like all his releases or not

He is immensely talented - a well-trained and seasoned jazz pianist, however it is unfortunate that most of his CDs do not showcase it....they are sleepy, smooth jazz (not my personal taste). He would be great in Pajama Game, though.....I'll have to check it out the next time I am in NYC. "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive."

HC is a solid singer, performer and songwriter. And he tends to wear his influences on his sleeve, a la Kravitz.
A real talent. My fave from him: Star Turtle.

Yep , that was the first time i saw Harry in a total different role . And he did well , with that ( southern ? ) accent of his . Sigourney ( imo ) can really put a good atmosphere in a movie . I liked most of her roles . Good tension in that Copycat flic . . . . [Edited 5/11/06 11:50am]

Yes, I actually did see part of The View with Harry. Of course that's what made me think about him. Did you see it? Yeah, it just reminded me of how much I enjoy Harry as a vocalist... and musician. Since he's been on Will and Grace, well I had sort of forgotten about his musical side. That guy is so talented. Ottensen, thanks for the info. I vaguely remember the bio on him. But as I recall, it really focused on his childhood. Thanks for your responses. It's nice to know that Harry has some fans of his musics outside of his acting. I was just wondering.

I've seen him live a couple of times...He's pretty Cool, a helluva Piano player... his piano style is lot more adventurous than his singing style. As he once said, "When I sing, I'm singin' like Frank, but when I play, I'm playing like Monk, which doesn't really mix, so my career's gonna be kind of odd..."
