Can anyone think of a good up and coming RnB group? Although there are a few good up and coming solo, RnB artists, what about RnB groups. They seem to have all died a death. I mean back in the day depending on your taste you and age you had the Jacksons, E,W & F, Kool and the Gang, The Commodores, Isley Brothers, Maze etc. Then you had the really old school i.e The Tempts, Four tops, Supremes etc..
Apart from Destiny Child in recent yrs I can't think of any decent up and coming RnB groups. Am I just missing something or don't they just do them like they use to.?

I think it has a lot to do with today's marketing process , which seems to let artist peak for a relatively short time .
After their heyday , some of them continue to release their material through own sites , www.cdbaby.com , www.myspace.com , etc . Mint Condition is not quite an upcoming group but are still one of the later generations . All of them are skilled musicians , and their live-sets pay off well too . . . . John Legend, Alicia Keyes(albeit, not really up and coming). Not that many but they are there, moreso than the groups.

Frank McComb - sings , writes , produces - has a Donny Hathaway kinda approach - has a long durance quality which is less & less used in the mainstream & commercial musicbiz .

R&B groups are OUT unfortunately. they went out with the crappy artists like B2K, 3LW, and oh yeah...that one group Beyonce used as backup singers. "Bug a Boo" and "Lose My Breath" were good though. luckily you need look no further than about 1975-1995: TLC EWF Gap Band Commodores Brick Dazz Band SWV En Vogue Emotions Tony Tone Toni (sp?) ...you catch my drift. I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

I could add Lucy Pearl from the late 90's to your list . Unfortunately through artistical & other issues they separated . Glad to have catched them live in a powerforce show . Raphael "Ray Ray" Saadiq has gone solo after that . But the Tonies were indeed a great act . . . [Edited 5/10/06 12:49pm]
