its amazing what Bon Jovi has been able to do

here'a a group that was labled a hair metal band in the 80's and despite the hair metal backlash has remained popular today some 20 + years later..and just recently crossed over to country to become the 1st rock group to ever hit #1 on the country chart but the most amazing thing is they are being played a lot at top 40 radio stations with over 1,300 spins this week and considering top 40 stations these days rarely play anybody over the age of 30 thats amazing...good job guys!

actually you make a good point. Bon Jovi is still huge when most of his contemporaries are playing Oldie's circuits and crappy package tours.

I was actually thinking about this...I think part of the reason Bon Jovi's single has done so well is the fact that they're catering more towards people there age group and not so much the teenagers anymore. Thats probably why U2 is still so successful. They're not really trying to fit in with teens.

I think this is an avenue alot of veteran artists need to explore...if they cant reach the 18-24 demographic, go for the older people. Bon Jovi's new song is a big hit, yet youd be hardpressed to find a 15 year old casual music fan jamming to that song. Hell, look at Cher back in 1999. "Believe" was a MAJOR hit, yet it wasnt a song that your average teen would go crazy over(unless they're very musically inclined).

When Prince releases "Fury" as a single, he should go for this Adult Top 40 route. If he cant reach the MTV teens, he could definitely build the song up with the older folks.

Not that Im saying its impossible for a middle aged person to reach teens(Madonna's "Hung Up" did alright with the kiddos as well),but it's a long shot, especially considering how shitty radio can be to veteran artists.
