The Dixie Chicks -- Taking The Long Way

All I have to say is I love it biggrin

"Lullaby" is worth the whole album. This album is the furthest from country compared to their previous albums. Different, but good. Anybody else got it?

I just, um, picked up. I'm excited to hear, I like them, and keep waiting for them to make an album as good worthy of their personalities.

but in all fairness i want to repeal my earlier posts on above thread.

I still think its a bit heavy one the "incident"as its being called.

However this cd is getting as much play on my ipod as the new pet shop boys.

Its actually an amazing cd.

Lullaby is beautiful, I Hope is just wonderful, and bitter End is probably the most affectionate kiss off to the country fans that ive ever heard. Very bittersweet yet so very empowering.

For the third time in their career, the Dixie Chicks roost on the top of The Billboard 200. The Columbia album "Taking the Long Way" tallied 526,000 copies in its first week of U.S. sales, according to Nielsen SoundScan, the trio's best-selling week since 2002's "Home" debuted with 780,000.

And while country radio has remained cool to the group in the wake of a 2003 boycott following comments group member Natalie Maines made about President Bush, "Taking the Long Way" also nabs the No. 1 spot on the Country Albums chart

Top of the Billboard 200, huh? Talk about the masses being a fickle bunch. I remember seeing clips of crowds literally STEAMROLLING piles of their cds in cities all across the U.S. They were receiving death threats, kidnapping threats (they were all moms of toddlers then)...it just seemed totally insane to me. Glad to see that these ladies survived all of that madness with their dignity intact and a good record to boot. flower

I am so happy for these ladies! To see them live is a cool thing. These chicks really PLAY THEIR ASSES OFF in concert. I'm still a newbie to country, but I have to admit, I really like them. And I LOVE the name they chose for the tour
lol!

...anybody interested, The Dixie Chicks will be giving a 1 hour interview tonight 9pm EST on CNN's Larry King Live.

I have to say, I can't be too taken aback by the record heavily referring to the media controversy over Maines' statements; these are gifted young women who received DEATH THREATS against them and their babies, people chanting on the streets that they were sluts, should burn in hell, be jailed, exiled from the country...I remember seeing those images and being completely horrified by what was happening to my country and the right to free speech. I even had democratic gay friends calling for them to be "censured" because they were undermining the leadership of the country, people were giving televised opinions in street interviews saying they should be tried for TREASON and WAR CRIMES against the United States boo...between all of that and the grassroots campaigns that were instigated to destroy their life careers, I must say, if I were them, here and now, only 36 months after the fact, I'm not sure I'd be "...Ready To Make Nice" either neutral ...
