She is very annoying, but I have to say those songs are really good. They sound like REAL songs. Which is more than can be said for most of her competitors(that includes Madonna's recent junk. Sorry, I mean, music)

She sings songs with somewhat original melodies. What the fuck can we complain about in the modern pop climate?

Thank you. That is exactly my point. Her songs have tunes. Remember those? They used to actually mean something in pop music. As loud and overexcited as she is, if I'm gonna find contemporary artists to hate on I'm not gonna go for her because the songs actually sound like they were written by a professional. Most female pop stars' songs now sound like they were written by 4 year olds. Gone is the songwriting sophistication of HDH (Motown) or even hacks like Steinberg/Mckelly( True Colours). What were little girls listening to 20 years ago."Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", "Manic Monday". Those were literate and tuneful pop songs. Madonna's songs at that time were also fantastic. That songcraft has gone out the window now. The amateurish shit Madonna calls songwriting now is just one example of this decline. In this context Kelly's songs stand out. This alone gives her an honourable exemption in my book. But yeah, the bitch does need to calm down a little bit. Whew, had to get that off my chest.

She's every bit as good as Toto or Kansas or Gerry Rafferty or Styx were back in the '70s. We need more Kelly Clarksons in the Top 40, so there'll be more maudlin middle-of-the-line music to rebel against.

If you'd rather hear some other bullshit in the top 40 over this, then, by all means, let us know what it is. Along with Pink, Kelly is the best thing in mainstream pop because she's actually making real music. And yes, it is maudlin Top 40 A/C pablum, but it is still the best thing in top 40 right now. Sad, but true, and I'm not going to dog Kelly (or call her a bitch) for that.

Pink? I like her attitude but her songs stink to high heaven.

I'm no fan of Kelly Clarkson, but the gal can sing! I do agree that sometimes she sings too loudly and it doesn't sound great, but for the most part, she has a decent voice.

As I've said many times before, if someone can actually sing, I give them credit. I don't think she deserves Grammy's etc, but she's better than the likes of:

Shakira - her voice is horrible
Britney - she doesn't even have a voice
Ciara
J.Lo
Ashlee
And the list goes on and on.

If you're looking for shit to rebel against you could do a lot better than KC. Just off the top of my head:

Alicia Keys
James Cunt (no that's not a spelling mistake!)
50 Cent
Jack Johnson
Daniel Powter
Madonna
Marilyn Manson (is that pantomime clown still around?)

Etc., etc.,etc.

I like Kelly, she can sing and finally has found an audience.

why do people think kelly clarkson has such a great voice, when her range consists of loud, LOUDER, and FOGHORN? so she can hold a note for three minutes straight and she can yell all her lyrics. whoop de doo. she has no range, and it always looks to me like she's tantrumming onstage when she performs. but i know that's what people like, so whatever. great. she's the best thing to happen to pop music since avril lavigne. rolleyes

No one here is saying she's great. Just that there's a lot worse out there and the songs are actually genuinely good, which is a rare thing these days. At least in the Billboard charts. I'm from the UK and it's not much better here, although we've currently got a great song by Gnarles Barkley at number one. Hopefully you guys will make that number one stateside as well.

Tamyra should have won that first competition-after that I stopped watching the show. I figured that if they could pass up real talent like that-then the show wasn't worth watching wink .

Girl can sing live, so she's fine by me. I actually like a lot of her stuff; she's like Kelly with spunk. Who Knew is a great rip-off of Since U Been Gone, but with better lyrics. U + Ur Hand is great.

I have to disagree. I love her latest Walkaway and can appreciate the musicianship behind the song even if it is a pop song. I think she is really talented.
